If a PCA weekend is 450 as per Mayor Frank, the math is 125+ per day. For 11 days of testing and racing that works out to 1.375m. SCCA is putting on the test days, not the track. Which is close to the number I heard SCCA had agreed to. Which at $1125 per car works out to 1350 cars. Which takes into account no test day or parking fees. My guess would look like

Entry        1125 x 900 = $1m and change
If all test days sell out every group  $687k
Parking fees, just a wild guess total $100k

Total SCCA intake should be under $2 million even if we add a significant positive fudge factor.

Add in insurance, employee salaries, travel expenses for employees, trophies, parties, worker give aways, and I would bet the event is close to a break even plus or minus.

Pretty big gamble if you ask me

Yeah, I think my number is too low as well. I am just going off what I have heard from someone who used to work for national office. However, I think we would get a lower per day rate since we are going to have the track rented for 11 days instead of two that the PCA does

Your NY numbers must include 2 from WA.

That is a good observation! That is because the Motorsports Reg has "Hometown" and Amy Mills and Whitfield Gregg have a Washington city listed as their hometown.  The reason why I changed it is because I know they race on the east coast and I believe they live in NY.

It's unlikely. There is a huge opportunity cost for the track to give up two full weekends in the summer for a non-annual event. Same deal will be if/when the event goes to COTA is my guess.

The cost of the track for doing a DE such as what we have done for 3 years is 20 K per day plus 15K over the three days for the flag crew, and they have lots of flaggers on track and a host of TV cameras

The cost for a 3 day RACE was in the higher price point due to it being priced as a race vs. Testing.

The track has an impressive array of cameras, They will be able to film every infraction, so no passing under yellow you on video.

Also beginning July 19, registration will open for SCCA sanctioned Test Days, September 21-24, at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Competitors will be able to register for ONE Test Day through MotorsportsReg.com starting July 19. On July 26, drivers may register for additional Test Days depending upon availability.

Anybody else having issues ??

From the SCCA site.

"today was the day to sign up for add'l test days.   registration wont let me edit my existing entry and i cant find a link to register for test days?"

I edited my entry no problem at 10a when the reserved numbers opened up.

P.S. I actually had to go back and re-enter my originally registered test day. I could have picked any of them.

P.P.S. Got this email at 1:09p: "The registration system is temporarily down for edits (including adding test days and changing car numbers) while a repair is made. You will receive a follow up email notification when this function is available again."

Figured I would recalculate since there are a lot more race entries and test day entries.  The numbers with 800 entries was:

  • Entry Fee Total = $1,212,850
    • Race = $900,000
    • Thurs Test = $49,225
    • Fri Test = $74,900
    • Sat Test = $88,000
    • Sun Test = $100,725
  • Garages Total = $97,800
    • Gasoline Alley = $54,600
    • Grand Prix = $43,200
  • Parking Total = $58,600 (Avg at $100/driver, Less drivers in Garages and estimated Gravel Parking of 100 drivers)

Grand Total = $1,369,250

The new calculation with race 944 entries:

Entry Fee Total = $1,539,785.00

â—¦Race = $1,062,000
â—¦Thurs Test = $74,285
â—¦Fri Test = $114,800
â—¦Sat Test = $142,500
â—¦Sun Test = $146,200

•Garages Total = $97,800

â—¦Gasoline Alley = $54,600
â—¦Grand Prix = $43,200

•Parking Total = $63,000 (Avg at $100/driver, Less drivers in Garages and estimated Gravel Parking of 200 drivers)

Grand Total = $1,700,585.00
