4. #22900 (Jim Drago) Rear Camber/Upper Control Arms Thank you for your letter.  Add 9.1.7.C.3.t: t: On the rear upper control arms, the original outer mounting holes may be slotted to obtain additional camber. The max slot size shall not exceed 0.433" x 0.600". No material shall be added.

Ok, .433 wide slot by .600 long (presume slot end is a radius.). Is the .600 long from center point of radius to center point of radius or is it from outside ends of slot? In the engineering world slots are specified either/both ways. Should the partial sentence read, the original outer mounting holes may be slotted inward to obtain additional negative camber. Aimed to whoever wrote up the CRB minutes.

Should it not be slotted "outward" so that the top moves in, proving more negative camber?

My letter was against this, not for. This was a knee jerk reaction to one competitor getting bounced.  The next will be redesigned rear hubs and rear subframe braces As we move closer and closer to prod.

Yup and that's ^ not a positive move.

Armando, top of tire inward, top of hub inward, bolt for attaching hub to upper control arm hole inward, slot inward, equals more negative camber. :yep:

Kinda blows me away how fast this change was made. Making a weight change takes an act of god with reams of anecdotal information (from the right people). It seems you have to be the right person running unapproved gear to get a rule change.

Danny, can you please run an aftermarket wiring harness so we can get that change in the rules please? Would it be too much to ask that you also run an ECU, removed blower motor and air controls?

I do like the idea of an aftermarket wiring harness with a remote mount location.  Having to crawl under the dash and potentially break the connectors to provide ecus for inspection is both painful and scary.   A firewall mounted ECU on the passenger side sounds awesome.

Hmmm. I am going to take advantage of how this works. I would  like to put ballast in the right rear of the trunk instead of the passenger floor. Since, it is unfair that I am a 6'3" 230 pound guy and I have a hard time getting my weight off of the left front bumpstop, it puts me at a disadvantage in right hand turns.  Sebring has a lot of right hand corners and that is why I haven't won there yet.  I think I will do this for Sebring Majors, so that way, after I win and get DQd, I can get the rule changed for me too :)

"2. #21854 (John Bauer) Shock Spec Data Review Add to 9.1.7.C.3.a.1.: 1. Shocks (including internals) must be as delivered by Bilstein/Mazda. No modifications to the compression and/or rebound forces are allowed."

So the above is copied from the list of recommended 2018 changes...as was the letter by Jim(I'm confused Jim...someone else wrote the request and your letter to oppose was attributed to it?)

With regard to what Bauer has written...for years there have been people who offer "rebuilt shocks". Having zero knoweledge as to what is done during this process...is he saying these aftermarket vendors can only use verified "Bilstein" parts and oil or is he saying only Bilstein can rebuild? As I understand "No modifications to the compression and/or rebound forces are allowed", has always been the case so what is changing here? Either a shock passes the established Dyno curve or it doesn't correct? If internals are different but it passes the dyno...how would one know what is inside is different?

Should in fact we be receiving some form of "sealed" shocks that can be easily checked if they have been opened up?

I've been told that a better shock testing procedure is in the works designed to catch the rebuilt shocks. Unless the builder is advertising a claim of superior performance by modifying the dampening rates why would anyone spend double or more for a rebuild than new?

So We had to buy offset bushing up front rather than the bent spindles, but its ok to Modify the rear upper control arm rather than Bushings?

Inconsistency, it is.

Blatant plug ahead:

We have our suspension jigs completed. You will be able to measure all 8 control arms and front and rear spindles in a few minutes. We are going to make a "you tube" video tomorrow showing how easy it is to do this. If all goes as planned I will post a link tomorrow afternoon or Wednesday morning

I should have pricing and availability by mid week.

I will supply one complete set to SCCA (Topeka) if asked. Any region that wishes to purchase a set can do so at a deeply discounted price.

Agree to disagree.  But, I just put a Metric Sh*t ton of bondo on the right rear qtr after my most recent wreck. just in case. There may be some aero differences now though as I have a wide body kit on just the right rear but it should fix my weight issue.

Have you ever picked up hardened dried bondo?  It's pretty darned light.  You're better off with that Marie Osmond nutri-system deal or getting off the creatine.
