I think it is up to the regions to decide how to handle failure to go to impound, but I think you can protest any rule violation as a matter or right.

FYI, this isn't adopted yet.  It will be voted on by the BoD during their convention meeting.  Glad to see they recognize each region/track has different situations and didn't require a specific location for the investigation site.

In our region and most others you are called to the Black flag station, so imo this new rule does zero!

Idiot behavior will continue untill people are suspended or banned...

I had an incident where I was far too impatient racing in stl at sebring, I stuffed it in thinking the guy saw me caught him on the back wheeel all locked up and he spun, got pulled over in Black flag told steward I made a terrible decision and he looked shocked and aksed what bad decision was that went through the whole thing with him and he went to talk to other driver. He came back ask me to go talk to other driver and I got out told him it was 100% my fault and I was really sorry it was end of the conversation he could have protested me if he wanted to I suppose and I would have gladly taken whatever punishment was given...

From the steward reaction to what I told him most others that come to.the Black flag have no idea if they are at fault or not and if they are at fault do not own up to their actions!

It's a bit difficult at first but it has all these sections and you have to be following along which section you're in.

So in the No Recommended section was the Rear Arm

and in the Recommended for 2018 section was the GCR change.

What Recommended for 2018 section? The section is titled Recommended Items for 2019. The GCR change for Contact Impound under that section, recommends to be effective March 1, 2018. Just pointing out the date inconsistency.

Before jumping to any conclusions consider this new rule, if approved by the BoD as written, requires voluntary reporting and the implementation details are yet to be defined within the stewards group.

Peter, I do NOT read it as voluntary.

Add 6.11.1.E.: E. If a driver is involved in significant body contact, the driver and car shall stop at the designated incident investigation site for review of the incident by the stewards before going to their paddock area. The designated incident investigation site shall be identified in the Supplemental Regulations and/or a written driver’s meeting. “Significant body contact” includes but is not limited to: contact resulting in 2 or 4 wheels off course, spins, loss of position, or repairs to suspension or bodywork.

The word shall in the GCR means required. If it degrades to voluntary, then it is useless.

It's already referred to an Incident investigation site. And is needs to be in the tech area since that is already an impound area. And drivers can be notified by a sign with an "I" shown at start finish and wording in supps that says clearly, you touch and cause damage, you report.

You guys who asked for this are to be commended. As an organizer and Administrator of SCCA races, I want you spending your $$ on entry fees, not unnecessary body damage. Thank you.

Many people have read about the contact over the few years on this site.

There are rules in place today and these rules have been in place for years.

Funny how it's always the drivers duty to protest when these rules are in place.

Let's start with a simple existing rule:

J. If a car is involved in an accident or is damaged as a result of mechanical failure, the damage must be noted in the Vehicle Logbook by the accident investigator or Chief Technical Inspector.

Why is this existing rule not followed/enforced?

Who is not doing their job today, if you want the job hat, wear the job hat.

Your an idiot. We’ve had a perfectly finely tuned system of blame avoidance and then you come along and freely admit fault. Now no one knows what to do.

No, Jim, it should not be in the tech area.  That may work at some tracks, but the wording was changed from the proposal because there would be significant logistical problems at many tracks having it there.  If a driver involved in a contact incident has to report there first he will, in most cases, bypass the pit lane black flag steward, who is exactly the person who should be doing the initial investigation.  There is also the sense that doing it there instead of in tech short stops confrontations before the investigation can be done.

There is also the problem of a contact incident driver needing to be talked to about something else, i.e., PUY, other non-contact situation or as a witness to another event.

Implementing this will initially require notification of contact from the corners at least until it becomes a routine part of the game for drivers.  This will provide the BF Steward an opportunity to catch someone coming in early as a way to avoid reporting.

We'll see what the Executive Stewards put together for process details, but I do know they were the ones concerned about doing it in tech.

As to voluntary, that is as opposed to being stopped by an official.  If this is implemented correctly, drivers should be lined up at the entrance to the penalty box without having someone tell them to stop.
