As most of you know, Bilstein shocks are on intergalactic backorder. Mazda has been out since December, most of the aftermarket warehouses have been out since January. I ran out in March. I do not know when they will be available. Rumor is late April, but I do not have a lot of confidence in that date.

I was able to find a few sets in Europe. With the extra shipping and duty fees, they are a little expensive. But I have them on the shelf. I am only selling as a complete suspension kit (sway, springs etc.) So do not call asking for just shocks. I want to make sure anyone building a car can get the car completed and on track. I normally sell the complete kit for $1525.00. With these expensive shocks the price is $1800.00. My cost went up $70 per shock! I have only a few sets  of them in stock. When they are gone, they are gone.

I put this here, rather than in a classified, because more new builders will be looking here.

thanks

Dave

Its time for a new shorter sealed shock and a ride height rule...
That will get us off the bump stops
way less wear and tear on the suspension and hubs
the tires will likely fair better as well

but, wouldn't the ride height rule be low enough so we could still get back onto the bump stops with lower ride height?

Not with the Goldilocks shock which should be looked into if not considered long overdue

Notes: Mazda has been pursuing multiple solutions regarding the shortage of Spec Miata shocks. Once a definitive solution has been reached, Mazda will let our racers know via MazdaMotorsports.com and our weekly eNewsletter. We appreciate your support and patience during this process.

Negative on a ride height rule! If a guy wants to ride the stops why should we be saying he can't?

Jesus, why don't we just mandate a full setup spec? Why not go farther and just make people go to specific shops to have the spec setup done to their car? Max camber spec has been thrown out there to consider, now ride height, might as well go all the way and dictate tire pressures, caster and bar positions.

If you want a ride height rule, simply figure out the minimum you can go without rubbing the top of the tire on the frame, then add 1/4". Too low is bad, so just set it so nobody is tempted to run that low.

Didn't Indycar have a skid plate they would weigh and you were only allowed to lose so much of it during a race? We should do that.

Can we get SM Race-tuned magnetheological dampers?

their probably going to just change the damping rate on us to make our shock fit into another category. or is it the shock body length that is a problem?

Johnny, what is the reason why there is a short of shocks? Not enough volume? odd size?

IIRC, I thought they had to retool the whole factor. Not just our P/N but everyone/eveyting.

There's others threads that started talking about it earlier.

Does that mean there will be lenience on revalv... I mean rebuilt shocks?

Don't make it a "skid plate" on the underside of the car but a plate at the top of the wheel well - it wears down and heats up the tires.

Double negative for running too low!

The price for the "SM_MAX" shock dyno rebuild at Fat Cat motorsports just went up to $1500?!?!  That's more than the entire SM spec suspension kit from Mazda.  WTF?

I don't know if the entire SM community knows that sending the Bilstiens in for re-valving from Fat Cat is completely legal in SCCA and NASA.

Did you know that you can gain almost a second around bumpy tracks by having this done?

Add to this that the spring goes completely slack when the wheel is in full droop.  It seems to me that the entire shock package is not really correct for this car, let alone the series.

If we are going to change the spec shock, it should really be tuned and sized correctly.  Also, lets get a tender spring in there.

After some brief research, I'm really dissatisfied with the current state of affairs with the shock.

I know this spring and shock combo was "originally sourced using parts lying around the workshop" but c'mon, enough have been sold to justify doing it right.

some people believe that you'd actually be better off using the stock NB shock instead of the Bilstien.
