Was thinking of submitting a request to the CRB but wanted to poll this group first. Double-dipping in STL is great, but everyone has read the rules and knows a Spec Miata is not competitive in STL, especially at big races. Not that it would be at the tippy-top of a big T4 field either, but I would think this would be an opportunity for the club to draw more participants toward double-dipping if they knew they had a fighting chance in a 2nd class.

The issues I could see the CRB bringing up are:

1.  The T4 camber limit of 3.5 degrees would have to be disregarded if cars are in SM trim. Racers will not compromise SM competitiveness for T4 compliance. The ride height rule shouldn't be a problem.

2.  Our minor cylinder head work is technically not T4 compliant. I would think the restrictors cover this gain to bring the benefit to near net zero.

3.  The T4 spec weight is 2450. Not too far off what we are now, but it the club would have more success allowing us in complete SM trim rather than requiring double-dippers to swap weight around between every session. T4 cars are allowed programmed ECUs and a cold-air intake.

All this being said, a purpose-built T4 NB should still be more competitive than an NB SM. I think this would still be the case at any track.

What do you all think?

Doesn't your local division/region have SMT (open tire rule)? That's how we double dip in CenDiv, and since almost everyone has Hoosiers it's basically two SM races.

Only applies to divisional races. If you run Majors, STL and T4 are options, but technically a competitive SM is not T4 legal. The fuel pressure regulator will get you disqualified if you're protested, but unlikely an issue in the tech shed if nobody says anything. Usually not an issue, but there is at least one T4 guy that will throw paper if you beat him. Also, the only track that I've been to where an SM has a chance at a win against a good T4 car is Grattan. Times are very close.

Your ideas and believe me I get it are VERY SM BIASED! :)
First, miatas are competitive in STl, spec miatas are not.

Some insight.. The adhocs for touring and supertouring committees are responsible for the guidance of the class and what is best for their respective classes and their competitors. Double dipping Spec Miatas and the competitiveness of such cars is about LAST on that agenda, really on a page of the agenda they will never even address.  Believe it or not most true STL and T4 competitors do not want Sm cars  in their races.  So IMO and experience, you can send a letter, but it has a snowballs chance in hell. The T4 rules will not bend to accommodate double dipping  Sm cars.  Thank you for your input, haven't used that in a few years :)

Jim can you remove my quan3165 account? Dern work computer logs me in to that one.

My ideas may be very SM biased, but we are finishing our purpose-built T4 NC and testing this weekend. As a true future T4 competitor, I'd welcome a bigger field  :optimist:

Thanks for the insight. I am batting a thousand with CRB request letters so maybe I'll keep it that way.
