Is anyone using the new AIM 5" MXS in a NB?

If so did you have to splice into the harness or is there a 'connector' that you can plug in?  Working on the ECU / harness under the dash is a major PITA.

So looking for advice, best practices, etc...

thanks in advance.

The NB really doesn’t have any useful information to pull from it. So essentially you will be installing new sensors and running line to them for the MXS. Yes, it’s a PITA to do and will take longer then you think.

As was said previously the OBD2 port won't give you much useful info. You could get water temp from it, but I think that's about it. The update rate for the channels is too low.

Taking the cluster out and using a flat piece like http://www.ironcanyo...m-mxs-and-mxl2/ to mount the dash gives you a lot of room behind for wiring.

Yes, using the OBD port is too slow.  So I need to tap into the tach line, I guess.   If you remove the cluster, you do lose a few OEM guages, and to be honest only the fuel is the worry.  Has anyone made a custom file to replace the fuel gauge?

Iron Canyon has a Fuel Level sender that works great. http://www.ironcanyo...cm-fuel-sender/

However, AiM added some new smoothing/averaging functions and people are saying you can get away without the ICM box now (and just use the built-in smoothing).

I created a custom sensor map for the ICM box (and my 1.6 tank) by pumping out all fuel and adding a gallon at a time. I'd be happy to share that as a starting point if that would help. Not sure how close it'd be on a NB tank.

The real issue is converting the resistance signal from the in tank sender to a voltage and maximizing that voltage range from empty to full so that the AiM can understand the input. Using as much of the analog channel 0-5v range is a big deal. Any filtering/smoothing done on the AiM side is all goodness either way. It is about time more was done in this area. What they have now helps but it is still pretty basic. It will improve I am sure.

Sorry guys, I know some, had an old Mychron gold but clearly still don't know what I don't know.

I think my current strategy is

  1. to get it setup and working with the OEM gauges still there.
  2. See if I can use my existing Air/Fuel gauge.  I have an innovate gauge with a wideband (LM2 i believe) and think there is a way to take the signal from that import it.  Of course AIM sells a lamda controller which is the easy route
  3. Remove the OEM gauge cluster and make pretty. :)

Should I even mess with the Innovate or just spend the $$$ and buy something new?

If the Innovate works, use it. It should be a simple thing to map the default linear output from that into the AIM (or alternately remap the Innovate to output the default on the AIM). As seems the case with all their stuff AIM gets 2x the going rate just because they can

The LM2 will work with the AiM dash. It just outputs a 0-5V signal.

Sure, they all do, but you need to give the dash a translation table for volts to AFR, or at least two points assuming linear output. There isn’t a universal standard for that. Many widebands also permit remapping their output to match the expected input for the receiving logger/equipment.
