Jim, while I understand your logic, it does create a problem for those of us that run an NA.  Here in the Midwest, as an example, there is no real Regional racing.  It means that if we don't run a vintage series, which I do, you then have an obsolete car.

It will take away options for many.

I think this makes a lot of sense, but rather than relegating the NA cars to regional only, allow them to run in their own class IF they get enough cars.  They can be in the same run group, so we aren't messing with schedules, but they would be a separate class.  This works well with SRF/SRF3 and  the SMSE class works well in the Southeast.

Also, if we run the NB cars at a lower weight with no restrictor plate at the HST and Runoff level, we should run them in the same config for all races.

I moved it to another topic.. Discuss it there. There is an option for SM and SM2 in same group

Its all just a discussion. But needs to be discussed

Eager to hear why you think this, Jim...I'll see if I can find the other thread you said you moved it to.

The answer is 51 or roughly 7%..

Is it time we stop catering to 7% of the class at the Super tour level?

I think it is.

2020 Supertours and runoffs should be

01-05  Miata   2350 std weight and 2365 over bore with no restrictor plate

99-00 Miata    2325 std weight/2350 over bore with 47 mm plate ( or whatever determined to keep same parity to VVT we have now)

90--97 cars regional only

The cars will be much faster, more fun to drive and more attractive to new members.

With the coming spec mx5 class, we will need to keep our class moving forward and keep SM strong.

I'm sure many wont like this, but it is time!

Jim

First, I agree the baseline performance comparison needs to change from the NA6 to at least the NA8. Continuing to insist these platforms constitute the lowest common denominator does not appear to be helping with entries at HST or even other Majors events.

Second, we (SMAC, vintage 2015/2016) tried to have things prepped to support this suggestion with a NA6 to NA8 upgrade but it was shitcanned by the CRB.

  1. Get everyone on a 1.8L first.
  2. Then you can start playing with things.; lighter weight on NA8, bigger plate on NBs...that sort of thing.

The progression I envisioned was to then support the use of the NB1 engine in the NA after a few years (easily swapped in with Flying Miata kits or homegrown ones).

Effectively raise the overall performance envelope of the whole class gradually (if the car owners wanted to put in the capital and/or effort) instead of shucking aside a large swath of viable cars without an option to be not only permitted to enter but also remain competitive.
