Does anyone have the 411 on the need to have your head neck device re certified in SCCA/NASA

I sent mine into Simpson in New Braunfels, TX (where my connections are), and came back done: Easy peasy!

They have a form online that you need to fill out, and then put it in the box with your harness.

I should noted i have the Hans device. I have to see if its SFI or FIA certified . I am told that makes a difference SFI needs to be certified and the other does not.

Simpson bought Hans years ago. They do all the certification. I had the one that didn't need to be certified (I think FIA?) but I sent it in anyway. Was cheap and they replaced the tether and the attachment points.. couldn't go wrong for $25 + shipping

I have never had my HANS teched at an SCCA event, and as I'm sure you've checked, there is no mention of HANS expiration in the GCR.

SVRA does inspect HANS devices and requires re-cert every 5 years. I send mine to DowningAtlanta.

I think NASA does check them. I did look at mine and i have both the SFI and FIA sticker. I am told that if you have the FIA sticker you do not need to be recertificated as far as NASA and SCCA. A buddy of mine was running with SVRA and they made him do it.

I did mine through https://garysspeedsh...ecertification/

was very happy with Gary’s service.
minor cost to pay to ensure you don’t end up debating a safety official about what the GCR says.

Frank - from my understanding, there is no need to ever recertify a head and neck restraint, at least for SCCA.  As long as the device "has been" certified in the past and still has the SFI/FIA label you are good to go.

From GCR:
The use of a head and neck restraint system that has been certified in accordance with SFI 38.1 or FIA 8858-2002 or 8858-
2010 is required; an SFI 38.1 or FIA 8858-2002 or 8858-2010 label must be properly affixed to
the device.

Nasa does look, and does require that it be valid. It was noted in my last annual. I just had to send my NecksGen in to be recerted this year in prep for 2020.

Frank, my HANS was checked at Nationals this year.  At first, the inspector said it needed to be certified, but I mentioned the FIA cert trumping the SFI, and he agreed and said all was good.
