Hutchinson Island, and yes, the Dixie Crystals Grand Prix Indy Lights race.

Years ago when i was staying down in Hilton Head we went over there to tour the track and talked to the Hotel folk near by thinking about holding a PCA event there. Its a cool track with some banked sweepers. that would be fun.

Was just looking at this one myself....   Seems like a fun mini-vacation weekend even.   Anyone in wPA/wNY/OH have room to take an additional car down for me? :)

Ran with SVRA this year at VIR in Mike Rossini's NA and had a blast - great weekend, great clean racing, and so many totally cool cars to drool over.

Sure, some of the vintage stuff is not driven at or even close to their limits, but everyone is having a good time and I can see the lure of this series. I personally think that SVRA has made a very smart business move. I dont see the pointy end of the SM field fleeing SCCA, but I do see some of the NB drivers have more options, especially getting in track time when needed, at a much more affordable entry fee

Not necessarily a lower entry fee, however, lots less damages for sure.

$275 (after Mazda contingency refund) for practice, two qualifiers, and two races. Where are you finding a lower entry fee than that?

And if you go to Road America this year ADMISSION IS FREE!

Just paid $795 per class for 2-day HST event at COTA - I would say that getting almost 3 race weekends for the same price is a HUGE WIN. And I can see it attracting a bunch of racers. But those that love to battle it out at the front with the best will always seek out the fastest group and race with them.

(SVRA) Mazda Miata Heritage Cup will welcome 1999-2005 NB Miatas, creating a second podium, beginning in 2020.

has anyone been able to confirm if  " a second podium " means 2 classes ( NA and NB )

Previous years of the SVRA's Miata Heritage class had two podiums, NA6 (SM) and NA8 (SM1). So, will there now be 3 podiums?

Another observation, SVRA has no tech shed, being for "fun" after all. I personally have smelled funny fuel on the false grid. Perhaps a "dedicated" NA6 vintage car would not necessarily have to be at a disadvantage. :-)

Sigh.  It's really sad that anyone would cheat in a vintage Spec Miata race.

Save that crap for the Runoffs!  :D

I spoke with Tony Parella (SVRA CEO) on the phone after this was originally announced as I had some questions and concerns.  He confirmed that there will be 2 podiums (NA and NB).   If there is a substantial car count, there might even be a possibility of a split start as well.   All in all it was a good conversation with Tony and I trust where he is taking SVRA.

I’m running out of excuses when my daughter asks “when are you going to win something Dad”?  So I’m fine getting a trophy for “best mid pack driver” or the “managed to get onto the track without hitting anyone” trophy.

so settle down there Mr multi time champ.

That's been true in most SCCA classes for decades.   Maybe youth baseball learned from us?

guess who started the "everyone gets a trophy" mentality? it wasn't the 5 year olds ....

thats why we join spec miata BTW, over another mega easy to trophy class, because we are here for the race and the struggle and the respect gained. the respect a trophy represents is based ONLY on the competition you beat to get it. not on what place it is.  i have a saying, if you want to win races, join another class. if you want to have a track day with open passing, join another class. but if you want to have a knock out drag out bar room brawl of a road race ... your only two options are spec miata and SRF. and we like it that way.

Just going to leave this out there. Unfortunately, the reputation for Miata racing, primarily in SCCA is that is there must be contact. That perception is very real. As with an old MG, I finance my own car under the watchful eye of the Mistress of Finance, who (usually) must obeyed, I am not interested in the "I can't pass you, so I'll hit you" mentality. Vintage offers an alternative, and is usually looked down upon as inferior competition. It is far from it. If you have not attended one, try it.

And FWIW, there are no trophies.

Show up. Race as hard as you want. It's actually harder to NOT hit your competitor when racing in close quarters...
