I’m hearing that at least for Road America the NBs will be included. True? Details anyone? Just that race? Because the Runoffs will be there?

According to the press releases and communication I've read, it's for the entire 2020 season.  As an SVRA NA competitor, I'm not happy about it for the full season.  A one off "reunion" at Road America will be cool.

I saw this last week.  It is my understanding this is for the whole 2020 season.  As someone who has run a number of these events I am not happy about the NBs joining.

However, things change and we will make the best of this.  The SVRA events have lots of cool cars and they treat us really well.  There is a back story here, you can bet on it.  Mazda and SVRA didn't make this decision for the heck of it.

The press release mentions a "second podium".   I assume this means a split class?

This option for competing with my 1.6 just became less fun. *sigh*

(It's our [NA racers] own fault for not having more entries. Crap.)

NA’ers who posted, way to go in making more drivers/cars feel welcomed to SVRA.  Whew.

As for me I read this and thought “good job”.  After essentially deciding that the recent SCCA board decision on Runoffs qualifications was insanely expensive, this looked like a very interesting and fun way to race RA this year and to possibly become involved with SVRA for future races at interesting tracks.  So reading your distain was a downer this morning.

Distain is maybe a bit dramatic, no?

Disappointed to be relegated, again, to underdog status in yet another sanctioning body. Yeah, I'd say it's more like disappointed.

I am disappointed as well.  However, first, I have run with SVRA in Heritage Cup for several years now.  SVRA is a first class group to run with and always has been.  Certainly wasn't trying to diss them.  I ran a vintage car for years with them before I bought a Miata.  I also agree with you that unless you want to spend a fortune this is a perfect way to go racing.

It just came as a surprise to me that they would include the current competitive national cars.  The NA crowd just liked being by ourselves.  Progress happens and we will adapt.

Nah, I still like the word distain.  Words are in the ear of the beholder.

But if you prefer - then I’m disappointed that you are disappointed.

I suppose one could argue that they are still not old enough to be classed as vintage by common definition.

I expect my vintage will pass muster though.

I have two buddies who have ran the event at Mid O the last few years. They love it and wondered why they would only draw 15 to 20 cars. They rave over the event. Well I just emailed them that the rest of the gang can join them now. I see it as a smart move by SVRA , while SCCA and NASA are trying to find out why they are losing head counts, SVRA opens the door.

Who would not want to race with a group that prohibits contact.

I agree, a good move. Not sure I will do any events, but nice to have the option

I was excited last year to run some of these events, but never did. SVRA has made it very difficult for Miata owners to find the info on the series. I've searched for a consolidated schedule for the Heritage Cup, emailed SVRA several times with no response. Leads to an impression that they're not enthusiastic about the program. Lime Rock opened the Vintage Fall Classic to us recently, and I have to say it was one of the best racing weekends I've ever had. The crew at Lime Rock was amazing, the crowd was wonderful, and except for some rain, the no contact racing was a blast. Would love to have that kind of experience again at other tracks.

FYI: For the past three years the SVRA held 6 Miata Heritage Cup events per year; Roebling Road, Road Atlanta, Auto Club Speedway (Fontana, CA), Road America, Mid Ohio, and VIR. Truthfully they could make it a little easier to search on their website, however all the info is found on the event page if one takes the time to read it. https://svra.com/events/

The SVRA's event information contact Kathy Swinford is very responsive to email questions: kathy@svra.com

Mazda also publishes the schedule on their motorsports site. Tentative 2020 schedule is included in the "NB press release" https://www.mazdamot...-road-america/

2020 Mazda Miata Heritage Cup Tentative Schedule:
Roebling Road, February 14-16
– Road Atlanta, March 26-29
– Road America, May 14-17 Note: Free featured Marquee program for Miata
– Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, June 25-28
– VIRginia International Raceway, September 24-27
– Savannah Speed Classic, Grand Prize of America (This event looks like a hoot, run on the site of the 1911 Vanderbilt Cup, the original Grand Prix of America)
– Circuit of the Americas, November 5-8 note: Spec MX-5 only

Also visit MazdaMotorsports.com for contingency info/application. Speaking of SVRA Mazda contingency, in 2020 that equals a reduced entry fee of $375 (versus full price of $650) and a $100 bonus after the event. Not quite the deal it was in the past but still pretty cheap fun. Note FREE at Road America.
