no they aren't.. But for some reason our sales are off when I am not here, they must always put the Runoffs on a "slow" week :)

If I could snap my fingers..

1 test day, two qualifiers the next day and a race on the third..  but some how have me out of there in 3-4 days.  I see no reason for multiple qualifying sessions. if you cant get it done in two, maybe it is just not your year or you weren't prepared?

Being a mid pack guy i know that I'm not going to with the runoffs, but I love VIR and it's only 5-6hrs from my house and like others I'm choosing not to go.  The schedule is ridiculous, the cost is ridiculous.  If the schedule were 3-4 days I'd be running but having it spread out over 10 days with 1 session per day (outside of test days) that's just too much time away from family and work.  Instead I went to Daytona for 2 days for the SAARC race this past weekend and ran a 90 minute enduro (until the hub failed :/ ) and the sprint race for less about 1/2 the entry fee to the runoffs.

I'd love to race next year at Road America but I'm certain it will be the same 10 day format which really puts a damper on my enthusiasm.

Haven't posted here in QUITE some time because I don't bleed SCCA like I used to, but this is a topic I spent quite a bit of time thinking about in a former lifetime. I proposed (and still have) a couple of timelines that offer two qualifying sessions and a championship race for 21 run groups over a (max) five-day period, plus one that has two qualifying sessions plus a championship race for sixteen run groups over a max of four days. In all cases, the PTB discarded those ideas for a variety reasons, but mostly due to the desire for all classes to have their own races.

If someone if interested in renewing the battle let me know and I'll send you what I've submitted previously...

:twocents: The goal in recent years has been to increase participation by making it easier to qualify(I'm qualified and going, but only to watch) while simultaneously keeping it time and cost prohibitive to actually go. I think the answer lies somewhere in between keeping separate races for each class and combining classes that are under represented as an incentive for classes to promote themselves or lose their separate race. The scheduling part is where it gets tricky, because we won't know which classes will be weak until well after the registration is opened up. It would require some fluff in the schedule so adjustments can be made on the fly. I see a Wednesday to Sunday Schedule and the elimination of test days. There are plenty of opportunities to test throughout the season. Bring your A game to the big show. I also see a possibility of 2 qual sessions on wed for half the classes and 2 on thur for the other half (some combined) with the wed qualifiers racing the first half of the weekend and the thur qualifiers racing on the second half of the weekend, giving people the option of arriving later or leaving earlier. I'm sure it will be easy to pick this apart, but It's really hard to justify a race for 9 cars or a race for 1 car and call it a championship. Looking at the numbers, I would say that combining the prototype classes would make for a much more interesting race too. If there is less than 20 cars in a class, doing a split start with another class would make the show better for the no attention span generation that we're trying to entice into our asylum...er uh...club. Feel free to shred this in the interest of finding a solution that the CRB might actually give some thought to.

I race a lot, both in SM and T-4. I love VIR, it is my favorite track.

Even with all of that, I'm skipping the Runoffs because of the large time commitment and the small amount of track time (18 minute Qualifiers?). Finally, as much as I love VIR, there is not much to do in the area, besides race. I can handle a weekend at the track but not 10 days.

Good luck to all who can/choose to attend. I'll be following closely online. And I am sure that one Qualifying starts, I'll regret my decision and I will wish I was there!

Maybe an only Spec Miata National Championship hosted by SMMD is in order!
