Wondering if anyone has direct experience with both the Toyo R888R and RR and can provide any comparison?  I have switched back to sprint racing my 1st gen RX7 and am wondering if the R888R is a legitimate choice for a race tire.  I liked the RR alot for SM, but there is a better size available in the R888R and the tires are about 30% cheaper. If they are 30% slower tho, they are not worth it.

Thanks,

Carl

The RR was a much much better tire on the Sm.

Are you talking about the R888 or R888R?  I know everyone seemed to hate the R888 when it was the SM spec tire.

I have not run the r888r, didn't realize it was a different tire

I just mounted a set of the R888R on a car, unshaved they are real fat, I did not weigh them but the felt heavy compared to the RR. The treat in the R888R  would be better in the wet. I have never raced them so anything beyond that is a guess.

I have no experience with the R888R, but watching others around our home track leads me to believe that they are fairly similar to their predecessor the R888. I have raced on both R888's and RR's in similar sizes. The RR's were 1 - 1.5 seconds a lap faster on a 1:21 lap at our track (tight and twisty, 1.6 miles around).

Not sure if that helps, but that's the best I've got.

Also, competitive lifespan of the RR's is almost the same as the R888's, IMHO.

Thanks for the responses guys.  Still don't really know how the R888R's perform, but have decided to stick with RR's for the time being.  Maybe will cycle a set of R888R's in sometime as an experiment.

I run r888 for fronts on my lotus road car and RR on my sm car. Both are good tires. The r888 isnt 30% slower but it doesnt work like that. If you spent 30% more than what you spend on RRs you wouldn't go 30% faster.

There is more movement on the r888. But I believe the rubber sticks about the same. I personally love the r888s . Just like the RR they are very linear and predictable when they let go and allow time to predict and recover.

I like both, but if I had a choice to run either on my sm, I'd pick the RR. If I had to pick for my road car, R888.

Are you running the R888 or R888R?  It looks like they only make 4 sizes in the R888, so I am guessing that you are using the R888R, which is supposedly much better (whatever that means)  than the R888.

Thanks,

Carl
