Halo seat for 230lb driver that fits NA6 w/o tunnel notch or drop pan?

Finally got my car to a race, but tech gave me until next race to get a new seat.

My old recaro has to go, so thinking I should go halo if I'm getting new seat.

I've searched, but yet to find insight on what halo seat in L/XL fits an NA without tunnel cut or drop pan.

 

Looking at dimensions, MOMO seems too tall, OMP and Sparco seem to have a shorter height and shorter halo arms.

Racetech (seems the popular choice over here) offer tall or wide&tall, but not a wide w/o tall, so I fear this will have clearance issues due to height.'

I'm 5'11" @ 230lbs, 35" waist and top heavy build(like someone who used to lift but could get the diet part ha.)

 

I've got a beautifully crafted TCDesigns cage that allows the seat to move as far back as you can, so 

my main worry is around the wider seat requiring a tunnel cut. I'm trying to avoid that if possible. 

Like most experiences to date, trying to save money has only netted spending more, so maybe I just need to suck it up too, 

 

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

Pretty much forget about composite seats, you will need an aluminum one. Check dimensions on the Kirkey 70 & 71 series and compare those to the comparable Ultrashield. If your thighs and hips are consistent with your waist then you can probably get by with a narrow enough one of those, and if it’s close a little bending of the seat or “shaping” of the tunnel is simple enough.

I had an OMP HTE-R that I used for a few years.  Just replaced it with a wide RaceTech while TC was doing a drop pan in my car.  I forget the model but it is wide but not tall. 

You are welcome to come by and test fit both seats and the car.

Both of those seats should fit reasonably well.

I’m surprised the OMP fit, without even the tunnel notched? Were you offset left rather than directly on axis with the steering?

Also, at 5’9”, did you mount it with the lowest part touching the stock floor? If not that may be the difference. A taller person needs every bit of vertical and that’s where the tunnel widens becoming the limit.

If the Race Tech is wider it is even less likely.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm going to see if I fit into the OMP HTE-R400. I was told by Wine Country it was designed for the Miata. Evidently it's the same dimensions as the HTE-R but with a narrower Halo outer dimension with the same inner width for more clearance up top. Well, I'm going to sit in it first, seems my current recaro was narrower than I thought(like 14" or 15" hip). The HTE-R seats have a 15.35 hip width, so maybe I have a chance of fitting in it(Thanks for the heads up Alberto!.) I'll use a hammer to shape the tunnel if needed to center, it's only a 1/2" wider than the kirkey 16" at the bottom, and if I need to notch or drop I'll just do it. If I don't fit its Kirkey time ha.

A few of us are running that seat in SF area.  It fits w/o the tunnel notched but yes you are offset left a bit.  Which is why I did the tunnel notch and drop pan. 

 

Good point on the height.  Although, the 4 other guys I know running the seat are taller than me.  The rear of my seat was touching the floor.  The body definitely needs some massaging to get the seat centered and away from the cage downtube which is what one of the 4 people I know did.  Or a tunnel notch with or without the drop pan.  

 

DJames - do take Steve's warning to heart.  You might wind up needing the notch or drop pan to fit in the car depending on your proportions.

I'm 6'1" and fluctuate between 195 lbs and 200 lbs.  I run a Kirkey 71500  https://www.kirkeyra...ACE-CONTAINMENT

 

This is the same seat that Steve was recommending.

 

It is bolted to the floor.  My car is up at Charlie Hayes shop at Sonoma so if you're there, you are more than welcome to swing by and sit in the car.  Just give me a heads up so I can give the guys at the shop a heads up.  Kirkey also makes the same seat in a 17" width in case you need a little extra down low.  

 

The seat is comfortable and I have plenty of room with no floor drop or notch out.  Good luck!
