Registration is now open for the inaugural 2011 WMR / MC Challenge Double Regional to be held at Grattan Raceway on 7/23, 7/24. This is a co-hosted event with Midwestern Council of Sports Car Clubs (MC). Both of us had poorly attended, money losing events at Grattan last summer so we're combining forces to hold a single event this season. MC licenses and logbooks are good for this event. As usual, there will be an open test day on Friday (7/22).
Since I'm Race Chair and I'm married to the Registrar, make her life easy (and therefore mine as well) and enter early. You can always bring a check to the track (without a late fee) so you don't even have to pay for it now.
If you haven't raced at Grattan before, please come on out and give it a try. It’s a great track with everything you could want in a road course. It's got some very technical bits, a long straight, lots of elevation changes and a wide variety of corners. It's been completely repaved in the last two off seasons and is smoooooth. Lap records will fall.
WMR is known for treating its drivers very well and this event will be no exception. We'll have driver, crew, worker party on Saturday evening. We have a new caterer and their meals were VERY well received at the Cheap Points Double National last month.
Register online at www.wmr-scca.motorsportreg.com. Schedule, race groupings, entry form and the tech sheet can be found there. Please contact me if you have any questions about the event, need help getting registered, etc. I can be reached at frameh at msu dot edu and 517.575.9450 (before 9pm ET please).
Thanks for your time,
Dayle

Alright, some fresh Central Division drivers to beat up on me. This is also a GLD Regional Championship Series event. The Midwest Council drivers will not factor into the RCS points, unless they are SCCA members with a region of record in the GLD.

Looks like this may be my first event of the summer. Life happens and sometimes racing has to wait. I love racing at Grattan. Planning to be there for Friday practice, and weekend racing. Can't wait.

I'm registered, but scheduling SM's in Group 6 means that folks likle me (who are cong from 6+ hours away) will have to plan on a very late arrival home. Just a suggestion that in the future the (likely) largest race group should be run earlier. My guess is that would result in more SM entrants. Just my $.02 worth.

MUST RESIST, I MUST RESIST!!!!
It would be so easy to make a comment like "But Rick, you will DNF, so you can leave early", or "You will DNF on Saturday and will likely be home in time to watch NASCAR". But I won't say those things.
A lot of folks will be towing from a long way to get to this event. Most of the MW Council folks have to tow through Chicago and around the lake. Our tow is relatively easy; long, but easy.
Some group always has to be last.

Rick,
I make up the entry forms and, therefore, the race groups and running order. As a driver, I have been the victim of a region not juggling race groups running order and am keenly aware of its impact. I keep a running chart of who runs when (even from other regions). So, yes, SM will be earlier next year. Also, keep in mind that we try to accomodatwe our 'dual-class' customers who run ITA and SM. We don't run them back to back. Nobody wants to be first or last so we juggle race groups accordingly. One more reason WMR is know as a driver friendly group.
Thanks for the entry, your 2 cents and we'll see you in a couple of weeks.
