How can i split the shifter to replace the bottom cover piece

How can i split the stick shift part number (17-150)to replace part number (17-475)I was looking at it yesterday and dont see how it comes apart.

Please help!

You do not split the stick. You cut the rubber boot off the metal ring with a side cutter.
Then slide the metal ring up the shift handle.
When reinstalling, a little lube makes it easy, wd40, dish soap, just ablout anything slippery will work.

The old one i will just cut off but are you saying the new one will slide over the stick with enough lube?

The rubber boot will stretch enough. Doesn't take much lube, just a spritz of wd40 is enough
