Our own Chip Vanvurst was named a star performer after his Sprints performance... What the article doesn't point out is besides Chips bad luck of losing an engine and then rolling the car in back to back qualifying sessions at the Sprints. He then only repaired the car in order not to lose his 6th place grid position, he had a spare car. So he and several others worked through the night to make this happen. He rolls up to grid and someone was in his spot, grid workers tell him to pull around and come back through, when he does they start him dead last anyway What a long weekend! Great Drive ( not as good as mine, but pretty good for a guy with two knees made of play dough.)
Congratulations Chip

TOPEKA, Kan. (July 25, 2011) – Chip Van Vurst’s triumph over tragedy racing tale led to his being named the “SCCA Star Performer†during Sunday’s America Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patron broadcast from Mosport International Raceway on ESPN2 and ESPN3.com.
The Pompano Beach, Florida resident earned this week’s honor during the WeatherTech Chicago Region June Sprints, June 16-19, at Road America. The weekend began badly for Van Vurst, who lost a motor in his Spec Miata-class Mazda Miata during the first qualifying session, then rolled his car through the Turn 12 gravel trap during qualifying two.
After a scramble by Van Vurst and his crew – and many people who became “crew†because they happened to be at the track that weekend – the Spec Miata made it to the grid, where he would start last in the 45-car class. The Florida Region driver climbed 41 spots to an impressive fourth-place finish in the race, which was shortened to nine green-flag laps.
The SCCA Star Performer is selected from a panel of judges, based on recent efforts in SCCA’s national Club Racing, Solo and Rally programs. The recipient will be someone who shined above the rest, epitomizing the passion, effort and success within their performance. As part of its new partnership with the American Le Mans Series, one SCCA member will be honored in each American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón television broadcast.
SCCA members are also encouraged to enter a sweepstakes for a trip for two to Round 8 of the American Le Mans Series at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The trip includes luxury oceanfront hotel accommodations and VIP hospitality provided by Tequila Patrón. Autocon Racing will also host a special opportunity for the sweepstakes winner, but only if they are an SCCA member. Registration and more information is available at www.americanlemans.com/scca.

One more grid fkup that ended up with unintended consequences. No way he gets that recognition if he starts in his assigned spot. Of course, he might have only passed five cars. Then he would just have been Sprints champ. Drago might have had something to say about that, however.

- pat slattery likes this
Satire is primarily a literary genre or form, although in practice it can also be found in the graphic and performing arts. In satire, vices, follies, abuses, and shortcomings are held up to ridicule, ideally with the intent of shaming individuals, and society itself, into improvement.[1] Although satire is usually meant to be funny, its greater purpose is often constructive social criticism, using wit as a weapon.

I like Andrews version better! Maybe SCCA has an opening in the marketing department, your editing skills are far superior!

Well deserved... watched him roll in front of me in Canada corner and saw them beating on that car "con gusto" when I was getting fuel. Nice drive!
