as the title says: Are the R888's being allowed this year in NEDiv SSM? Is it up to the Region holding a race to include it in the Supps (if it's still temporarily allowed)?

Thanks,
Tom

According to the NEDiv rules and the DC Region rules (linked above) the only permissible tire in SSM is the RA1. (IIRC the 2010 rules permitted the R888's until 12/31/10).

Many (most?) regions in NEDiv use one of these two rulesets (which are the same as far as I can tell). To be sure you should checks the supps for the individual race.

Thanks Terry. I'm familiar with the rule set. But there was talk of allowing the R888's due to the natural disaster in Japan (if temporarily). I believe most of the chatter was with regard to National SM. That's what I was getting at, and was looking for input on.....but the Regional only SSM class.

The 888s were allowed for National SM. But, for Regional classes, the rules 'owners' would need to modify their rules to admit other tires. If not, then not.

There has been no talk of RA1 shortages in the past few weeks and that issue sort of fell off my radar. If RA1 availability is a continuing problem, a request to the Chief Steward / Chairman, SOM at an event should be sufficient to get them accepted as an emergency measure. The policy for National racing should be a reasonable justification.

I posted the SSM rules on the NESCCA web site to provide a standard, division-wide set of rules. I did so with the consensus of the remnants of the SSM Ad-Hoc committee. If the SSM community feels that use of the R888's is necessary, I will update the ruleset.

See ya at the races

Terry
