With the seat mount extended back as far as possible for my feet to reach the pedals, the steering wheel is too close so my arms are crammed against my chest.

Definitely not comfortable, let alone optimum geometry (wheel comes to mid-forearms).

My question, and I know the GCR doesn't sty it, but it is a safety issue, can I cut down the steering column to push the wheel forwards into a better position?

Thanks.

If you cut the column, what else would be affected? Turn signals, light switches, wiper switches, ignition lock, etc. Have you looked at various quick-disconnect hubs? Some are much shorter than others, and the difference may get you the room you need.

This may be a silly question, but how deep is the "dish" of your steering wheel? I know some are very deep, while others are quite flush.

How tall are you/what's your arm length? Maybe someone else had a similar problem and can help?

Agree on the "dish"; you need a flat steering wheel and a short hub.

I have had drivers at 5'4" up to 6'6" in my cars and never felt the need to shorten the shaft. Post a pic of your steering wheel set-up and we can offer better advise

So for people using a welded wheel hub rather than a screw on type, you're welding to the splined end rather than cutting that off? I thought cut and weld to the round part was the way it's supposed to be done.

I meant cut the threaded part off and weld to the smooth part. Brain's not engaged this morning.
