As I posted recently, I just picked up a track prepped Miata, and trying to get a few things here and there done on it so it is ready for the track.

The car has a G-Force Pro Series 5-pt cam-lock harness setup, but the previous owner used it as a 4 point and never installed a sub-strap, nor does he have the sub-strap that came with the harness. I've called all around, including G-Force themselves, and I cannot buy this sub-strap seperately.

However, I found plenty of Simpson sub-straps through Pegasus Racing, Jegs, Summit, etc. that are made to work with the Simpson cam-locks. My question is, are these cam-locks a universal setup, and would the Simpson sub-strap work fine for the G-Force harness?

Any input would be great, thanks.

Scott,

I don't know the specific answer to your question on common cam-locks (but my guess would be that they are not). If you are intending to run this car in SCCA competition, I would also question if Tech would pass a mixed set of belts. You might discuss with your local Tech before pursueing too far.

I think running a mixed set of belts is a bad idea. First, like Jerry says, you will likely have issues in tech. Second, outside of the mechanism obviously not locking, the time when you will find out if the different components really work together is when you hit the wall. Relatively speaking, belts are cheap, you should get a matching set.

SFI mandates the restraint sets are homologated as a complete unit and deployed/installed per manufacturer instructions. No mix and match.
