Interesting video from the start of lap 2 at Charlotte Motor Speedway last weekend. Bertok, Tisseront, Hinson and I were racing for P3. We had just gone 4-wide through T1 without touching...

Thanks for posting Steve, as the car I ran did not have video or data. I was the one playing the part of the "hero" in car 82. Rick Gambill was kind enough to let me race his car for the weekend so I could have some fun.

I had started in P11, and had gotten some great runs in the first lap to give me a chance to go for 3rd that really didn't exist. All I can say is that I had a big head of steam, saw some pavement well below the white line and went for it. I did not, however see the enormous storm grate that would eventually send me airborne into Mr. Hinson (and domino effect into Stephan).

In 6 years of racing, this is by far the most stupid decision I had ever made in a race car. I waited for Ben after the race and apologized profusely, encouraging him to submit a protest that I would not contest. I also wrote him a small check to cover his bondo and paint expenses. Doesn't make it right, but at least acts a deterrant to keep me from repeating the same escapade.

This is not how I typically race, and is the 1st time in 6 years that I've ever had to replace a piece of sheet metal on a racecar. If anyone can speak to the contrary I encourage them to do so.

So again..... this was clearly my mistake... its absolutely unacceptable, and I publically apologize to both Ben and Stephan for affecting their event.

Aside from all that, what a tremendously fun weekend! I hope we can keep this one on the schedule for years to come!

Dan, had no idea that was you. I thought you were co-driving the 90 car with Bertok. Been there, done that myself back in my SRX7 days. I know for a fact that you do not race like that as we went 45 minutes last fall at VIR nose-to-tail & side-by-side and never touched once.

Thanks for showing me where that storm grate is Dan :P

@ Dan
Dan - that was a bonehead move, but you have REAL CLASS man! Nothing but respect for a person who takes his lumps and comes on the forum and says he screwed up. You have my vote. Look forward to racing with you some time soon

@ Keith
Keith, what happens on your video at the 1.41 mark? Was it the last lap? Did you come off the throttle?

This was the same lap #2 as Steve posted. You can see Nash and I at the beginning of his clip running P1 +P2. If you could see my review mirror, you would see the mayhem shown in his clip. On the Oval back straight we drive through the dust cloud they created.

At 1.41 I let off the throttle, Nash and I work out a nice lead. I'm just giving him space so we can run clean laps.

I went on to my first SCCA - CCPS - SM win from the pole. Great weekend for me. I learn so much each time out racing in SM. As you can see Dan Tiley and Bob Thornton gave me a great horse to ride.

And you drove the wheels off of it, not to mention your 2 NASA wins last month! You're having an amazing season, especially for a first year SM driver. We're proud to have you on board the Ti-Speed Team!
