Just like me. Make sure you check or you will not be allowed to race next year. I am afraid this is going to catch a lot of people out.

I suppose you couldn't swing getting tech to check them and have them put a sticker that doesn't come off like the 2012 for the helmet? Many may not have noticed.. But the SFI sticker on the Hans come off or peel partially and say VOID. I have never touched mine and the sticker stays void. If you have this problem like many of us, you will need to send the Hans back for inspection a new sticker and a donation to HANS

Not unless they are getting their SFI stickers the same place Bill Simpson was getting them from

Sounds like HANS needs to do a recall not for us to give a donation. If you have this problem like many of us, you will need to send the Hans back for inspection a new sticker and a donation to HANS

DO NOT REMOVE these certification stickers as they will leave a VOID label in their place, voiding your certification.
On my HANS (5 years old but well taken care of, not even a scratch on the label) you can see faint "VOID" words showing through the SFI sticker. I imagine that if I were to rip off the SFI sticker, all you would see are the "VOIDs". I guess we just need a clarification from HANS that if these "VOIDs" are faintly visible through the SFI sticker, it doesn't mean your HANS is no longer certified. I'm on hold now with HANS trying to confirm...

If you read the HANS instruction manual (http://www.msar-safe...wnersManual.pdf), on page 3 it says about the SFI sticker:

Dean,
Did you get any response from HANS? Mine is in the same condition - depending on how the light hits it, it either reads VOID, or the SFI certification. I believe the sticker is still there and is intact, but that it is possible to see the voids through the sticker. And my HANS is about 5-years old also.
And Oh Boy; it looks like some new Emoticons are available!

You can always send your Hans back and get a new sticker placed on it! I am running a very old Hans one that was made for Jeff Gordon, I simply got it recertified, Hans told me unless you just let your Hans set out int he sun it will never go bad. They didnt even want back to recertify it, but the NASA rules stated that it had to be a valid sticker and SFI stickers have an expire time. Just give Hans a call and they will get it handled for you, it only took a couple days to turn it around.

She said "On almost every device out there, if you look at the sticker just right, you'll be able to see the VOID. Just ignore it."
Problem solved, in that there is no problem.

I think we need to confirm that with SCCA since. While I agree with what you said and have the same problem, hate to show up and be denied the ability to race.

I don't mind writing a letter or making a few phone calls to do the leg work, just not sure where to start. The CRB?

Agreed, Jim. Who would we contact in order to get a clarification from the SCCA? And once that person or committee gives us a green light, is there some sort of bulletin (like Fastrak) that is distributed for tech stewards?

I am working on it. I will bring it up on the call tomorrow night. maybe we can put out a racing bulletin that addresses the issue? Not sure, but will find out.

On my Defnder I can see looking at SFI decal at the right angle the word VOID (marked several times at a diagonal to normal.)like it's die cut slightly into the back side of the silver matalic decal material. From your experiences/use does it appear that constant use/suit rubbing against the decal is the issue that brings this VOID to the front surface so that it's really visable?
Might a protection pad (don't go there Blake C.) keep the word void from showing on the front side of the decal?

SFI SPEC 38.1 RECERTIFICATION - published: Sep 29, 2011
Dear Sanctioning Body Official:
A recent SFI Specification revision now requires that Head and Neck Restraint Devices which are certified to SFI Specification 38.1 be inspected and recertified every five (5) years, effective January 1, 2012. Any existing certified device with an SFI 38.1 conformance label must be sent back to the original manufacturer for inspection after five (5) years from the date of manufacture punched out on the label. Product inspection, maintenance, and/or replacement procedure will be per individual manufacturer. Inspection must be done by the original manufacturer only, and not their authorized resellers or dealers.
When a device is determined by the original manufacturer to be acceptable for continued use, that manufacturer will affix a new SFI 38.1 conformance label marked with the inspection date and it will be valid for use for another five (5) years from that date.
Sanctioning Bodies requiring 38.1 devices will begin enforcing the five (5) year recertification rule as of January 1, 2012
Best regards,
CARL V. OLSON
Motorsports Manager,
SFI Foundation, Inc.

Here's a crappy cell phone photo of my sticker. I bought this HANS in 2005 so I got 6 years out of my sticker. Hopefully the device lasts even longer. I'm going to drop it off at HANS world headquarters later today for recertification.... and that yes, with just age or depending on the handling, almost EVERY HANS will eventually have the "VOID" start to show through the SFI sticker.
