Runoffs B-Spec

Unofficially I was promoting the Mazda 2 as a racecar. And promote we did. SCCA sponsored a tent specificly for the new B-Spec racers. Since I was paddocked accross the street, I kept the Alien with me.
6 other B-specs where there; The factory owned Mazda 2 that raced at Thunderhill last December, a Toyota Yaris, A ford owned Fiesta, a factory Fiat 500, a MINI with stickers (but otherwise unmodified) and a street Chevy Sonic. Also committed to the series are Kia and maybe Nissan.
For club racing, the B-Spec cars will be raced in Showroom Stock C (SSC) for 2012 before getting a class of their own in 2013. There are 2 pro series in development at this time. Nothing announced, but both seem likely.
The B-specs had a lunch time demonstration run on Friday and Saturday. We where told to mix it up and put on little show, so I did. Winning our non competitive race. On Sunday Voytek took the wheel and loved the idea.
Advanced Autosports has been invited to the SCCA test session at Grattan Raceway in Michigan next month.
We will be debuting the Alien in race trim at Blackhawk Farms on October 8-9 for the SCCA Regional race.

The B-Spec area was very active all week. Thanks for bringing the car and taking part. Tom Start, with the CRB, has been carrying this deal since the PRI show. I think this is going to be huge. I know the CRB appreciates your efforts. I hope you prepare a gazillion of them.

Lots of action at the B-spec tent and accross the street at my paddock. I hope the attention turns into competitors. SCCA and the manufacturers seem very excited by this project.
I will have a cage kit for the Mazda 2 available within a few weeks. Spring and shock kits are supposed to be arriving in October.
Let's use B-spec to get Mazda over 50% of total competitors next year.

More underpowered than a Miata, but I think it sticks better

Dave
Got any more info on this SCCA test? What day is it? All the manufacturers? Do you need another driver? I'm pretty good at Grattan.

You may not want to shorten B Spec to BS. Otherwise people will think you are speaking of the 2011 Runoffs SM race.... in both the BS race and the ....

Note: Having said the above, I've driven both Fit and Mazda2 street cars (I've owned the Two since Feb 2011) and feel the Two handles better (in street car form) and is more fun to drive.
