If it's too long, cut it. Not exactly rocket science.
Are you grouchy today, jim?

No, not grouchy. Well, OK, no more than usual. I think I did have to cut mine. Somehow it sounds a lot like "I bought a rope, and it's too long!" -- the solution just seems pretty obvious. Is it not?
Not sure if your thank-you was sarcastic or sincere, jschwarz. I'll presume you've just never had a window rod, and didn't realize they could be cut. They can.

Jim, be nice!
jscwartz, if you happen to have the type of rod that has the aluminum bullet shaped piece on the end, you just drill it out where it's been swedged with a center punch and it will come right out. Once you get it to the length you want you can put it back in and use a center punch to hold it in place.
Good luck

Nope, that wasn't it. My car does have the solid rod. Must have been something else!
It may have been the paint. Silver is fast!!

Jim- Sorry I forgot your normally like this...
Ken- Thanks, I do have a spring loaded rod so I would need to do as you instructed.
all- My question wasn't how to fix a rod too long but rather do most run a 23ish long rod? Ive got a halo seat and the rear of it seems like it would be really tucked behind the halo part of the seat. I guess this is just more side protection which is the whole point. Im just trying to feel out any consequences to this path. If everyone runs it like this than I guess its been tried and tested.
As Jim said this is an easy one
Thanks guys

When you go to install the rod, you'll find there are natural places to mount the tabs. As long as the rod is long enough to reach those places, you mount the tabs there, and cut the rod if needed. Our windows are pretty short, so you shouldn't end up with a rod too short to reach.
The tab being behind the front of the seat is a good thing. It means you won't be scraping your head on it getting in and out of the car, or catching other stuff on it. What I do is run my left hand back to find the tab, with the rod in my right hand -- once you do it a few times it comes naturally, and it's not a problem to get it inserted properly.
