Thanks to Mike Rossini for giving me the valve shim I needed to get Voyteks car back on 4 cylinders before the race began. Slightly disappointed in our 7th place finish, but coupled with the b-spec title and 4th and 5th (Daniel Bender) in the Pro IT race is a pretty good weekend for us northerners. With SUndays enduro still to come.
With all the moaning and groaning we do regarding weights/plates and 1.6 vs 1.8, This class has the best racing in SCCA and some of the classiest people.
Congrats to all the Mazda winners

So what else was done in tech besides whistling?
Winners of classes torn down to the short block and whistled. Others whistled and more.
Had to catch a plane so I couldn't stay for all of it.
Congrats to Danny, Todd & Kevin for great finishes. Hell of a comeback Danny! Thanks for putting the 1.6 there Kevin!
A big congratulations to Lee York who finished 1st in the SSM class and 16th overall. 1:45.390 in an SSM car! That's hustling, especially since it's your first time at the track.
It was a super event. Thanks to Tom Fowler and everyone at OPM Autosports for a great car, fantastic support and gourmet food.
Can't wait for the vids. ( :

blake on FB:
Tough weekend at Road Atlanta. Qualified 2nd for ARRC SM and 3rd for Pro IT. Realized on the grid for PRO IT I only had 15 minutes of gas for a 45 minute race, so gave up my starting position and just ran some test laps at the back of the field. Took the lead on the start of the SM race and lost 5th gear in the tranny on lap 1. Contact in front of me after the tranny broke put me back into the lead for the double yellow, but had to retire after the green flag came back out to save what was left of the equipment.
sorry Blake, didn't see you posting just above me.

Danny put down a hell of a qualifying lap on Hoosiers, as did Blake on the Toyos. I think most were expecting Danny and Blake to battle it out with a few others like Buras, Brown, Balanos, Charboneau, Sandlin and Kopp challenging for the win. Collins (SM5) started behind Blake and pushed him to the lead at turn 1. Blake lost 5th gear down the back straight on lap 1, Danny got past Blake and then Collins moved to the inside of Danny. Danny defended and drove down the inside, Collins squeezed through and got to 10a first. Neither made it through 10B, several others were damaged in the aftermath, Haldeman and Skip Brock cars seemed to get the worst of it, both towed away. The pictures posted above show the incident pretty clearly. You make your own decisions what happened there.
As you can see in the pictures, Collins was in an SM5, the only one in the field. IMO, and it is just that, MY OPINION. Mike should have never started p4 in the SM5, the ARRC is a big race to most of us, to start at the front of the SM when you are the only SM5car in the field is not what I would have done, but well within his right to do. The deal in 10a-10b with Danny and Mike " looked" VERY BAD to me. I saw a video from Pillas in car. But as I very well know from experience, things can and often do look different from different camera angles
Taking all of that "mess' out of the race, Danny drove a great race and came back to win from 12th after the caution. I feel for Blake and Cliff Brown, both had a really good shot to win the race. As I mentioned before, Blake lost his trans and Brown's throttle cable popped out of the bracket while leading.
Watching the race and qualifying sessions compared to other groups, the talent level in SM is very apparent, not just at the front, but most of the way back, most were wheeling the cars through T1, really great to see. I think many guys there both competing and watching were happy to see well built and driven 1.6 cars doing well. Buras and Kopp finished 2nd and 3rd. Buras led for a while. Anxious to see how the cars race next year with the Hoosiers and new weights and plates.
SM2? REALLY?? Blake, Balanos, Kopp and Buras all In "SM2" cars, please explain the need for this class again? SSM makes sense, SM2 does not.
Lastly, I was really disappointed in the crew who cleaned up the accident in 10a-10b. The caution lasted at least two laps longer than it needed to be, mostly because they put oil dry down and had no broom on the trucks to sweep it up. Not sure how or why the safety vehicle spreading oil dry wouldn't have a broom?
