Has anyone installed a standard (not made by Stilo) radio harness in a Stilo helmet?

I'm about to give it a whirl and thought I'd see if you guys had any tips.

I've installed radio harness in many other helmets, but if you've got a Stilo, you know these are not "standard" helmets.

Installing the harness is no different than any other. BUT, your radio may not work. The pins may need to be changed on the helmet pigtail. I had Larry at trackside communications do ours this spring. He has done several others since then.

Hey Kyle-

Its about the same as a standard helmet but with speakers. I would say about 80% of the helmets we sell customers ask for the standard helmet kit and not the "female jack" mounted in the helmet. FYI - My personal Stilo helmet is weird with my old IMSA coil cord... Man I love the helmet!

Sorry. I should have been more clear.

By "standard" I mean the whole helmet harness is a "standard one". Meaning it has a flex boom with the mic at the end, it has a female jack for ear buds, etc. The helmet harness was bought from someone other than Stilo a few years ago.

The issue as I see it, is just how to get the boom and mic installed. The chin piece in the Stilo is fairly thick and putting the mic on top of it leaves fairly little room between the mic and your mouth.

It would be cool to channel the foam in the chin piece a little to set the mic and boom into. This would mean recovering the chin piece with nomex, etc.

Just wondering how/if others have done it.

Just to follow up my question.

I installed the harness last night. Honestly, it wasn't as bad as I'd imagined. I ran the wires for the plug and the earphone out one of the holes in the side that the helmet comes with and did the usual one pop rivet to hold both of the the adel clamps for both the earphone plug (outside) and the mic flex boom (inside). I compressed the hard foam where the boom mic passed by it using the side of a screwdriver blade. Snap the interior pieces back in and boom ... done.

This helmet harness I used has the miniature Gentex microphone. What a nice change from the WWII looking giant mics. I did a back to back test with the giant mic and the Gentex and per my wife they sound the same.

One more 2012 project crossed off the list ....
