I'm curious about how Mazdaspeed Development sells parts. Take the example below of a lower front control arm:

In this case there's a part number 34-310 or 34-310Z depending on left or right arm. It leads to a box drawn around the arm and many other parts which have their own part numbers. Am I to assume that the 34-310(Z) part number includes the parts within the box, all sold as a complete assembly?

I would try calling DRAGO first I almost guarantee he has them in stock used at a fraction of the cost of new. You should really keep a set of them up lower, front and back as spares with you at every race. Know of several times that someone has needed that stuff after a crash. Really no need to buy new, just need to be straight, and Drago won't sell you somethign if it isn't straight!
Here is his toll free number (800)700-9080!

Thanks, Kyle! I was actually trying to answer this question and was then going to call Jim. I see them on the East Street site for a fraction fo the cost, but wasn't sure if I was comparing apples to apples, i.e. if the bushings, ball joint, etc. were included with the new part from Mazdaspeed. I'll give them a shout, and then talk to Jim.

But also, this question was theoretical in nature. Not just here, but I've seen several times in their catalog where a part number will seem to indicate it was an assembly of sub-parts. I guess I can ask them as you point out, but just curious if anybody knew offhand.

Julian, sorry I couldn't be of more help on the Mazda end, I have never bought those parts from them and normaly I just call, rather than look stuff up, it is probably just my impatience at work. I have an extra set from Jimbo, they came with everything in working order, ball joints, bushings etc. I do not suggest using used Cam bolts get those new from Mazda speed but used will work in a pinch. Best of luck on this stuff.

To answer your original question (a good one BTW), a box drawn around several individual parts with a part number listed against the box SHOULD indicate that it's an assembly including everything in the box. It does almost every exploded view I've seen. The control arms are confusing though because if you look inside the box, there is no part number pointing to the actual control arm itself and as I found out, the control arms come bare any you have to buy the bushings and stuff separately. They kind of blew it on their drawing standards with that one.

Keith is correct about the box giving an assemblies part number. But the pix are older versions. Many of the assemblies are no longer available. In the case of control arms, only the front upper is available as an assembly. All others are available as bare control arms only. Bushings, ball joints, bolts must be ordered seperately. best to call if in doubt.

I am sure Drago and all the other used parts suppliers have plenty of control arms.
