OK I missed! Yes I hit the friggin threads on the outer tie rod end while disassembling the front suspension last weekend. The joint is NEW. Th efirst few threads are slightly damaged and a die will easly fix the issue.

Anybody know off the top of your brain what size and pitch the threads are? Yes I have the nut and I can work backwards but I need to buy a new set since my were stolen last year and I want to get a set with the size I need.

Thanks

If you don't have an answer before then, I'll be into it enough later today to have an answer for you.

Mine are in storage so Keith will likely beat me to the punch. I was thinking the other day about how good a thread reference for SM would be. Once I get this thing on wheels maybe I could start something like that. I've been finding some oddballs, for example the motor mount threads that are a 1.50 pitch when my guys have M10 1.0 and 1.75 but no 1.50. But have 1.50 in M8. :scratchchin:

I also find it handy to have one of these around. ;) http://buy1.snapon.c...ore&dir=catalog

Both the threads where the outer end bolts to the steering knuckle and where the tie rod threads into the end are 12 x 1.25.

The tools dstevens showed are very handy. The diameter tool will normally cost you about a buck and the thread measurement tool often comes in a tap and die set. I misplaced my thread measurement tool so I used the calipers...and found one of my tie rods is bent in the process.

I'm in the process of completely overhauling my brakes and suspension so I'll take notes on thread sizes for future database purposes.

My industrial supply guys give promo gauges out with their logo for normal customers. Way better than that Snap-On unit. My pitch gauges I too got with the tap and die sets.

Good catch on the bent tie rod. I have wondered for years how we "knock the toe" out with an off track without "bending" a tie rod end.

I won't have the chick car back in the shop for another few days. I've got a bare tub so I'll get as many measurements as I can.

What's the plan on putting together a list? This thread? Start a new thread? Send them to you to assemble a spreadsheet?

I vote the same thing we recommended to Frank on the tranny rebuild. Put together a reference in word/excel/etc and add to downloads section.

I like Tom's idea. I can do a spreadsheet or we can do some sort of online doc like Google Docs. My projects in the shop may be on hold until I can negotiate working in the shop with six stitches in my right wrist with my better half. She's talking no shop work until stitches come out, 10 days. I was cutting the hard lines on the stock car and one snapped back and opened up a neat little bit of my wrist. Worst part was the Snap On truck was going to stop at my house as he's got an order of mine and I had to cancel the visit to get stitched up.

Let's get some more suggestions but I like the download section idea. Then we can work on format, etc.

You TOLD her? Rookie.

I told my wife the first two times I injured myself. Now, as long as the tetanus shot is up to date....what she doesn't know, can't stop me!
