I am thinking about this as a reasonably priced alternative to a full aim or traqmate system.

For $400 I don't think it can be beat. If you want external sensors in the future the Solo DL is a good option.

Haven't had a chance to collect data with it yet, other than with the daily driver.

Mine arrive with no maps loaded. The directions that it comes with are useless.
I had to download GPS manager software from AIM and then load the maps.
The only one I drive that it does not have is the Sebring short (Club) course.
I haven't figured out how to make it work on the short course and the Sebring map is only the long course.
If anyone can help me out with Sebring short I appreciate it.

Haven't had a problem yet with it falling off. Very strong and sturdy piece.

Both the Solo and the Solo DL are great items. We have been selling a bunch of them lately.
For those of you, like me, that need glasses to read a magazine, you will love the large font of the Solo.
We have been using the supplied mag mount, bolted to our radio delete plate. Never had an issue, even over curbs or the bumps at Sebring

I had a Micro3 Gold and while i miss the extra data channels the Solo is dead simple to use and provides great info.
At a major track just turn it on, literally.
I have a piece of aluminum plate that i bent past 90 degree velcro on the dash, velcro on two sides of the plate, and the back of the Solo. I nestled it to the right of the instrument hood. Easy to see and has not come off even when trying a high speed donut off the track. I can take it in and out easy and loan to another driver if they have velcro on the dash

One more thing, for OBD2 cars (99+) get the DL with the pigtail so you can record what the ECU is seeing. The sample rates are slower than what we would prefer, and not everything is monitored. But it gives you a start and will much easier teach you to use the AIM software.
90-97 cars, get the plain Solo
99+ cars get the DL

The Solo is also what SCCA uses at track to gather data in the competition adjustment classes. Although the magnetic mount seems to be a challenge for the P1 cars. The Gs seem to spit them off the cars.
