Well Rob, there are many things in oval racing that we CAN'T do with an SM. I'm sure (though I haven't read the ruleset) that you can't put softer springs on the LF to help the car into the turn, you can't put different springs all around to thelp the car turn on throttle. You can't make your wheelbase shorter on the left side than the right. You can't offset the car front and rear. Not to mention different shocks.

In SM trim there isn't a whole lot. Many if not most of the entry level circle track classes now and even the mid and top classes locally and regionally have a limited tire selection sold by the promoter. And many are specing shocks now as a way to keep costs down. Pretty much all the major sanctions forbid different wheel bases on each side of the car now. Some outlaw type series still allow it but if you are running pavement ASA, IMCA or NASCAR chances are you'll need to be within a 1/2" or so side to side.

The things that are pretty cheap for left turn only are cross weight, spring rates, camber, pressures (good chance they are different in every tire depending on the track), track width with spacers and if you can, stagger. What you are looking for is the right roll center of the car. (some call it "moment center") Any of the Bob Bolles lit will have some discussion though a lot of it is so he can sell his software. I got this one before it went out of print but his latest (I don't have yet) also covers road racing.

OK, Glenn, Mark, you were right. That looked like a blast. Let me know the Sept. date when you get it, will have to give it a try, and I bet that I am not the only one who has changed their mind.

Great race! Not a fan of the music(any music)because it's hard to hear the cars. That had to be really fun for the spectators...especially those who have never seen a Miata before :D

Looks like Tyler is a "bottom feeder", likes that low line. A 78 mph race speed is about what a street stock can do around there (400 hp/3400lbs). Pretty respectable. I'd be up for some circle track in the chick car. Looked like a great race. Didn't see anybody getting lapped, either.
