So, 2011 and another year of a not-so-decent economy is upon us, and i'm just curious as to what the rules are for tires this season?

Are we doing RA-1's only? Or allowing the leftover R888's as well as RA-1's this year?

We talked about that a little bit last year. I thought I was the only one still running 888s since I was using up everyone's take-offs but I figured I was the only one who would still want to use them up (BTW-Bruce, I still owe you for those tires). I for one would fully endorse anyone using them if it means you can race. I still have some that could be used up, especially my wets.

We still have time to change the supps back to both. As long as it unanimous, We shouldn't have a problem keeping them.

Since not everyone frequents the forum, how do we say we're unanimous? Propose a change to the supps and no response = tacit agreement?

From what I understand, regardless of the sups, the sub 1:32 crowd makes side agreements when there's an option like this. I don't know anyone who thinks the 888 is an advantage. Even more so, I can't think of any SM driver in the region who would insist that regardless of your budget, if you can't afford to buy 3 new sets of tires, you can't be in our club. Have fun in ITA.

I'm already planning to switch over to the RA-1 so I'm not lobbying for my sake. If it means Kyle, extremely hard worker and friend to all, can race twice as many events this year I'll lobby for his sake. SCCA fields have already shrunk quite a bit in the last year.

I personally don't have any 888's, but don't think it should be an issue in regional racing. Not sure what Conference is doing. Would certainly want the ability to run both SCCA and ICSCC so you might want to keep that in mind Kyle if Oregon supps ultimately allow both RA1's and 888's.

For budget reasons I vote to allow both another year. Full disclosure I have two sets in storage. Keith's point about what defines unanimous on a forum is valid. Don't suppose we have a member list to blast out emails?

I don't have a problem with folks using up old stock. In that tires have a manufacture date molded in the side wall, can we add that only 888s 2010 (2009?) and older may be used.

Good idea Jim. Would everyone be okay with using the 2009 and older rule?

BTW, I just found my old SM email list, but it's very old. Please send me your email addresses and I'll get it upated.

Turns out we were under a deadline to get the supps submitted for the March race today. Assuming nobody had any issues with allowing triple 8s that were manufactured before 12/31/2009, that's what we submitted. Sorry if anyone wanted to use tires that were manufactured last year. If so, let me know.

Thanks,

-Bruce

PS, please keeps sending those email address to me, the list is getting updated.

Depends who you talk to. Some people hate the 888s, especially in the rain. Others think they do about the same on our tracks as the RA-1. Since a number of records were set on the 888s, I can't use them as an excuse for MY times.

FYI: Here's a link to an article at TireRack.com on how to read the manufacture date.
