My Axles/CV's are original to the car 140,000+ miles. I'm planning to replace them before they go. Any experience, good or bad with remanufactured assemblies? It looks like most are in the $60 - $70 dollar range.

Ive used them with good results, no failures in a full season of events (include a few 3hr enduros and NASA Nationals too)... Got them from RockAuto.com, I've had good luck with their stuff.

They're hit and miss. Since their parts aren't identical to OEM, you're never really sure what you're going to get. For example I bought some hubs from them which apparently were never designed to come apart once they left the factory. I managed to get them apart and rebuild them once and the next time I pulled them off the car there were several things that came out in pieces.

I've called Advanced Auto, Auto Zone, O'reilly Auto, NAPA, and no one has remanufactured 99 axle assemblies. I don't want to get involved with shipping my axles to some internet outfit blindly. Any other sources I should explore? Maybe I should just get a boot kit and grease.

Recently sold used axles to a young guy who orderded through Pepboys and twice got the wrong thing(1.6 axles vs. 1.8) I would peel back the boots and get out your giant q-tips and compressed air...then some new redline grease and new bands, good to go!

NAPA sells those bands that hold on the boots for about a buck each. You do not need a special tool the just crimp with a pair of side cutters.

The deal with Rock is they buy lower end import OE speced parts for the less expensive parts that aren't to the tolerances of OEM parts from either the manufacturer or contractor. Most of that sort of stuff, bearings, boots, hardware, etc is contracted and not from the auto brand. As a result, the quality can be all over the map. One may pay 10 times more for an MSM factory part but, you know it's the right thing and you know it's going to last. I did my NA half shafts with CV-2 and brute force and awkwardness. You could also check with the usual salvage suspects, Drago, Blake T and even Sammy probably has something in good shape if you need it.

I didn't realize axle assemblies were so difficult to come by. So I'll likely just DIY repacking the CV's and hope for the best. Thanks for all the help.
