When is the SM Race?

Good question Blake. The schedule has not been compiled yet and should be finalized in about a month.

• In the past Thurs & Friday hosted a Warm-up or two followed by a 'fasted-lap' qualifying to set the field for a qualifying race.

• An average finishing position of the Thursday & Friday Qualifying races determines the starting order for the main event which historically has been held on Saturday.

• It's a pretty neat deal, three days & three races - Double the track time if you Supersize to PTE (I've done that twice and it really helps if you don't know the track)

Yes it does! Watch out for some of the Teen drivers to contest the win.

OK, but is there a class within the class? Do they get an award for being the fastest minor? Do they get to spray sparkling grape juice?

Not sure of additional prize money, it is a race within a race. The winner gets a shot at the Mazda shoot out. I believe that is what Elliot Skeer won last year making him eligible for the shoot out. I believe it is a season long championship with certain NASA races being within the Teen challenge. That is from a very cloudy memory of something I knew little about in the first place, so may be entirely wrong

There is a NASA series, the NASA Teen Challenge and a Mazdaspeed sponsored program, Mazda Teen Challenge Driver Shootout which is a shootout to transition to MX5 Cup to Grand Am or World Challenge.

I was playing. Yes, it is a separate race series inside the overall series. Dave is correct, they accumulate points inside the Teen Mazda challenge series events and the winner goes to a shootout for a MX-5 Playboy cup ride. There is a Florida, East, Texas, and west division and the winner from each division goes to the shootout.

Gentlemen, I appreciate you taking the time to answer my question. I've heard of the Teen Challenge.

What I was wondering, for no particular reason, is do teen challenge participants receive points during the NASA National Championship weekend that count toward the Teen Challenge championship? The reason I asked is I see at least one, possibly two, drivers on the NASA Champs entry list that qualify agewise but do not have "teen SM" beside their name.

If the answer is no, then why the designation?

I have no idea why they have that. I'm running the west series and am running nationals. Last year nationals could count for points towards the teen mazda championship. This year that's not happening from my understanding. Nothing else is happening as of right now for additional payouts at the nationals. Still have to win overall to be a national champion.....
