Has anyone experienced painting a partial or whole car with rattle can spray paint? Any and all pro or con experiences along with the type of paint and process utilized if applicable and how it turned out
would be appreciated.
Jim
It's a question of skill and patience. I have neither so it turned out like crap when I tried it on a portion of a car.

Yep, we rattle can cars all the time in short track. Most get better results with a roller and a brush. But it looks like either a rattle can or a roller and brush. That 250 deal at Maaco doesn't look bad, but it's to get you in the door to up sell on body work, finishes, etc.
Here is bad rattle can. Wouldn't pass SCCA/NASA rules or even some mosre established short tracks.

I thought I had a better one on the painting but here's what you can do with a cheap HVLP gun, compressor and about 100 bucks worth of low end car paint. Painting a car in your garage isn't for there faint of heart.

They pay the $8 per hour kid to mask what he thinks should be masked, then the $10 kid shoots the paint.
No primer, no sanding. There paint is purchased in 55 gallon drums. Blue in drum #1 is not the same as blue in drum #12. So matching paint is virtually impossible. That is assuming the paint actually sticks with no sanding or priming.
You get what you pay for.

My local body shop guy will shoot the car for $200.00 plus materials. Assuming I do the sanding, he will do the tape.
That's a helluva deal!

There used to be a couple of booth rental places in town. One was just a big empty warehouse space and one was an old body shop with a couple of auto sized spray booths. Booth were closed by the county because they weren't licensed. Most guys with booths won't let you rent them because they are responsible to the EPA and local authorities for what goes into the system.

If you are painting the front bumper cover, you must use a primer and a paint specifically for plastic or it will not stick and begin to flake off easily. Been there...done that. Just shot my front fenders with the best Rustoleum has to offer in a "primer and paint" all in one. Satin Black. Looks pretty good, especially after adding decals! Now as long as I can avoid contact, they should be good for a spell.

Try using the spray on bed liner on the bumpers LOL.

I just recently started using the adhesion promoter and it is definitely worth it. The paint is much more durable.Or you could use an adhesion promoter on the bumper covers prior to painting.
