My head is off already and I'm going to pull the rest of the engine and trans for a some bottom end work and new trans. Rather than bolt another head on just to pull it, am I going to run into an unforseen problem just attaching the lifting eyes to the block and pull it that way. Seems like it would be pretty easy but I have found wrinkles in my "easy" plans before.

keith,that should work with no problems. Just be careful not to scratch the top of the block where the head gasket seals.

Worked well, thanks Bob. The bolts near the top of the block won't go through the lifting eyes it turns out. I used the top left bolt for the transmission and the bolt for the ground bracket on the front right and it worked just fine. Probably didn't save any time over just bolting a head on temporarily though. :)
