Spent the weekend working on my line. Shaved 2s off my personal best to run a 2:15 flat.

Would love any feedback you guys could give me!

What diff are you running? Eliminate the wheel spin issue for one! As you get more confident, your brake points will be later(to early for the most part). Do 5 in 3rd and 11 in 2nd. Sounds like you need to rev match better on your downshifts which will help keep the car be more stable...dropping the clutch and letting the car take the rpm's up is really hard on everything and slow(IMO). No expert Johnathon but I stayed at a Holiday Inn :D Nice job though! When you get out there with us(big fields)your times will fall quickly

Congrats on the time breakthrough.

I stayed at the HIE all weekend, probably why I dropped time ;) My friend gave me the same advice on 5 and 11, I'm going to dry those next time. I'm really lost coming into 11, and have yet to find something good. I also feel like turning into 14 is a bit late. I'm really excited to get out there and race, I missed licensing school this year when I blew my motor :(

I'm running the stock diff, I think that's 4.10 gears?

I think the seat is definitely moving - there is some time there.

Turning in late into 14 is almost impossible as long as you're still on the black stuff.

Take more track out exiting 9. It will be there, have faith. Watch my video (look back to the SFR season opener thread) you'll see that even going 4 off there can be recovered with out losing MUCH time.

Also...brake later. Although its a bad spot to experiment during a race T14 is a good place to push your braking later and later until you find THE spot. This is because the markers are very visible on the ground in front of you as well as the sticks on the grass. Also with such a late turn in its a easy place to recover when you run out of talent ;-)

Most importantly, have fun in the process.

What year is your car? I seem to remember it being a 1.6? If so any stock diff(open or viscous)should be on your list to change as soon as you have funds. Torsen is the way to go as the mazdacomp and its replacement are hard to find and not as bullet proof. Listen to Dan and watch his Video...you will pick up things for sure!

It's a 1990. Is the Torsen diff that much of an improvement over the stock diff? I don't think I'm lifting a wheel anywhere...or maybe I am?

Awesome! Will check out the video for sure. I'm itching to get back out. I wish there were more 2 day track days, I almost can't justify 1 day events because of fuel costs.

You can hear it in 3 and 14. At Infineon it will be 2,7 and 11. When you can't get the power down you are killing your exit speed. Don't get me wrong,..you can run this diff but not up front! Another vid for you to compare.

What kind of tires were you running? Obviously Toyos, but brand new 4/32", near-slicks with 30 heat cycles, etc?

Will reply as I watch it:

@ :02 - remove that air freshener. You need total concentration in the car, not something swinging around in your line of sight. If you drive your car to/from the track, put it in when you load it back up to head home.

Enter T2 faster, let the turn scrub some of the speed.

Get a LSD or Torsen, yes, it will make a huge difference with wheelspin and getting power down.

T5 in 3rd

T8 - open up your radius just a hair. You had to add some extra input mid corner or so and that will scrub maybe 1mph. But you carry that all the way up the hill. Do it by getting to track right earlier so you're set up early for a nice, smooth turn-in.

T9 - turn in earlier and/or faster, like Dan said, you should wind up parallel to the berm over the top of the hill, not sort of "apexing" it at the end. The goal is NOT to have the car pointed down the hill to the right.

T11 - 2nd gear will work better. Don't cut the corner in 13 because you can't compare those laps to regular race laps. My point is, if you run a :14.5 when you cut the corner, that could be a :14.9 when you don't. You want to know you're actually 0.4s faster, not that you changed the course configuration.

T14 - maybe your approach was a bit slower, but you were braking after the 3 marker which is pretty good. You can hear a bit of wheelspin there too I think.

And please, remove that bloody air freshener.

You can sleep in your car, but you can't race your house.

A lot of good things happening there. I like your use of the whole road (T4 exit a notable exception.) The speed will come. I don't think there is any one place. Just a lot more full throttle pretty much everywhere. T14 is a good place to study that. You should find the turn-in that allows you to get full on the throttle without lifting. Swap that G-meter swinging off your mirror for a rumblestrip DLT1-GPS and mount it so you can see it in your videos. The T14 min-speed is telling. It helps to compare with others. Don't be afraid the muscle the steering wheel to set the car quickly. Keep us updated!
