Has anyone been using or used wooden trailer ramps successfully?
If so, what type of wood?
If not wood, what type of aftermarket ramps, length and weight bearing capacity are you using?

I searched for this with no success. Perhaps I searched with the wrong wording.

We have used them throughout the years succesfully.
Depending on the car's tire width, car weight, and the length needed.
2x8, or 2x10. Sometimes 2 ea. 2x6 together.
If it is a set that we plan to use for a while, we set them inside an angle iron frame.

Race Ramps are excellent for helping get the car onto a trailer's ramps at a better angle. I got some at Amazon.com using credit card points.

However, if you don't have ramps to get the car on the trailer and question is whether to build them out of wood, I'd probably suggest getting some steel or aluminum ramps made to carry the weight. Here is a link that I found searching:

I scrapped the steel ramps that came with the trailer earlier this year, 90 lbs each. The Miata will work with 2- 2x10 wooden ramps that also came with the trailer but creak a whole lot when the stock car went up them. On the list is building a pr of 8'-10' aluminum ramps. I can build a couple of sets for just about $100 in material. A good set of AL ramps can be $250-400.

Did it for a long time with a Sprite, later with the Miata onto an open trailer. Used 2x8 or 2x10, pine from Home Depot. We only used a 4' length. Had to replace one after about 10 years of service and sitting outdoors. YMMV
