Q1 done - so exciting. Hamilton's Q1 lap was off the hook.

This "tire preservation strategy" effectively killed Q3.

Unfortunately, Alonso clung on. Anybody but a Ferrari...

Hamilton seems to be especially on his game.. I've grown to to expect the standard .2 over Button in qualifying, but today was awfully impressive. Not a Hamilton fan, but no denying his ability.

"gentlemen"?

I totally agree with you about the season. I think they need to tweak the tires a little so they can run harder.

As i said.. not a Hamilton fan. It is apparent the FIA is not either. They seem to always enforce the rules to the letter on Hamilton.

He was Dq'ed from qualifying... starting DFL, doesnt seem fair. I hope he wins

Figured that was coming. That has the added side-benefits of appeasing the locals (for Alonso's sake), as well as depositing an offering on the altar at Maranello. The Ferrari gods have been very displeased this season...

Did you hear the locals cheering as Hamilton's car ran out of gas and stopped on the track? The FIA surely did.

At most they should have bumped him down to 10th, since he made it into Q3 fair and square.

I think he had a lap in q3 early as well. They should have taken his fast lap for sure. But they could have used his earlier lap or worst case put him 10th, I agree.

The FIA's moving of Hamilton to the rear absolutely cleared the way for Alonso, who then bullied his way past a timid Maldonado. It might have pleased the locals, but a Hamilton/Alonso duel for control of the race would've been far more exciting to watch for everyone who happen to live outside of Spain.

Hamilton's on his way to finishing with points, but a podium's way outside of reason at this point.

The collision appeared to be all Schumacher's idea. A shame, as I tend to pull for the old guys. Shards of carbon fiber all over; really required a FCY...

Yeah, it seems like they might have blasted him with the 2006 Schumie rule.

So sad that WIlliams's celebrations were marred by the huge fire in the pits. Several people burned and more than 30 admitted to hospital for smoke inhalation. No emergency crews got to the scene - had to be doused by the F1 crews

Yeah, it seems like they might have blasted him with the 2006 Schumie rule.

The return to pits rule came about after Hamilton did the same thing in 2010. Then they wrote a rule specifically for the situation. A way some guys have gotten around it is park at pit in, wait for the track to go cold then have the crew push the car back to tech.

As for the tire preservation, that's easy. Give the teams that make Q3 an extra set of softs to be used only in Q3 and make it mandatory to make a run on them.

As fr the fire, one person remains "in hospital" isn Spain with burns, expected to be transported to the UK for further treatment in the next couple of days. If they are keeping you in a burn unit, those are third degree burns. Hope it comes out OK. Everyone else treated and released.
