My son and I are about to kick off the 2012 season competing against each other, One is 33 and the other is collecting SS. Just curious if there are any other Father/Sons going head to head with each other. If so, how have the "dynamics" been? Would be interesting to know how many "teams" there might be and if it is really a good idea!

Bill-

ps: I guess it could be Father/Daughter...Mother/Son, etc....

My dad and I run in the northeast with Mike and Marc Cefalo. We have to fathers and two sons. Of course the sons are faster! :))

A very competitive father-son duo in the SE is the Bruce Anderson Sr / Bruce Anderson Jr combo. Both are very fast. The son has been a top contender in the SE this past season running in the top 5 most races. Dad can wheel a car too and has placed well in the top 10 in most SEDiv races, arguably the strongest division in SCCA Spec Miata.

The McSpaddens race together in SW (suck fumes and his dad). Aaron runs up front and I run further back with Sam. No conflict that way.

There goes Danny giving mis-information and starting arguments again. SOW Div is easily as good as or better than the SE Division. 👿😄

Just to slightly correct you...It's Bruce Anderson, and Bruce Anderson II. Not Sr and Jr as I have been corrected many times when they run up here by us in Cendiv...arguably the strongest division in SCCA Spec Miata :king: . BTW, we refer to them as Bruce, and Duece. Easier that way!!

Thanks for the kind words, actually I am beginning to like Jr. now.

I think running father/son is great. The best races are the ones where we are close together, or battling. We probably have most arguments about splitting costs with things like tow vehicle, hotels, car/truck maintenance, storage, etc. No issues on track or enjoying race weekends. PM me if you have any specific questions.

The "Bruces" started out in Cen-div and migrate to the south in the winter.

We also have Lon and Greg Blaser who started out sharing a car and now each has their own.

For a while I had Peter mohrhauser in a GT1 car with his dad Tom in a SM

I know Tyler Brown can't wait for the day he can take a turn on dad, Tom Brown's, car.

I keep trying to get Mitch Bender out of retirement to compete against his son Danny.

Father/ Daughter racing. I race with my dad. He is good, but I just started at the beginning of the year, so I am still slow. Just talk before the race and have some sort of game plan. Having radio headsets in you helmets really helps. Go out and have fun!

Wow....seems not that uncommon. I had originally wanted to sell my SM and share my son's new build. Seemed much easier to develop and maintain one top level car than always trying to prep two decent but certainly not top shelf cars. But, my son was the one who suggested we campaign two cars and run against each other. I suspect that was motivated by his desire to kick my butt, which he may very well do shortly. But, I will not go down without a fight. HA!

The only problem we have encountered so far is disagreeing sometimes on what needs to be done. He does most of the wrenching...I provide the motor home, etc. I think we need to agree that he does whatever he wants to do on his car...and allow me to do...tinker...whatever on mine. Still working on that. We have a sometimes fragile arrangement, but hey, it's a father/son dynamic after all, right. Anyways we have developed a business model for him and a nice website for our racing effort. Hopefully, it will develop into something that we can enjoy together. He's a great son...a very competent mechanic... and a very rapidly improving driver.

Will have to post back next week after our first race weekend of the year and report on how things turned out. I suspect we will be very close on the grid. But, we will see!

In the WDCR we have:

Mike and Chris Collins
Chris and Bill Windsor
Mark and Jim Thill
Jeremy and Jeff Lucas
Lee, Ted and Ed York

Its a pretty popular thing here. Some of the Dad's are faster, and some of the dads have fast cars ;)
