Installing a Raptor shift light in my '91. Have all wires connected except the one that is supposed to go the either the tach output or the negative side of the coil (at least I think that is the alternative hookup). Not sure where the tach output is located. Hoping it is not buried somewhere inside a wiring harness. Could use some guidance here. Thanks as always.

We have installed lots of these shift lights. We run the suplied harness out to the data connector on the left fender. You have all the contacts in one place, power, ground and tach.

Thanks Dave....
Thought that little data box was the spot, but am having a hard time figuring out which one is for the tach and how then is the little green wire connected? What is the proper proceedure for connecting that little bugger. Also, what rpm do you like to set the light?

Bill, Not sure why it didn't show up last night, but I think I remember finding it was a yellow wire with a blue stripe. Search miata tach or shift light installation. Might take a few minutes but you'll find the right wire for your year. You're going to be stripping back insulation to splice into the right wire anyhow, so trace it back to the one in the diagnostic box for the tach signal to be sure.

The colored wires always remind me of the scene in The Abyss where the guy is trying to disarm the nuclear bomb wondering, is this the yellow wire with the blue stripe or the white wire with the black stripe.

Opinions on where to set the light vary. Some like it an instant before you hit the rev limiter. I tried that and then set mine a touch lower.

When we installed our Rumblestrip it sounds like it hooks up the same. I just used 3-6" pieces of solid 22gauge(i think) wire and stabbed them right into the correct terminals. I bent them down around the side and put the cover back on and then connected them to the wires coming from the unit with butt splices. No wires to find or strip! Here is a link to the diagram that was used...

Not sure...but I would imagine Magnus would have a seperate diagram for his product if the cars are different year to year. My guess is that it is the same...but don't quote me!
