My understanding is we need 3 3/16" holes drilled into our cage for inspection ?? Any suggestions as to where they need to be ?

Personally, I'd leave it for the inspector/scrutineer to determine where they want to put their holes or where they want to instruct you to put the holes. That's what I did when I got my SCCA log book. they drilled 4 holes in different parts of the cage that they wanted to check.

And more advanced regions use ultrasonic thickness testers that require no holes at all.

Same here & then they used this little electronic impact hammer/punch.

Would Florida be considered an "advanced" region? :P

Right now, I'm embarrassed to even admit I'm from Florida. I don't see any evidence of intelligence at all in the sunshine state based on recent posts on this site!

I put one hole in the main hoop. Passenger side in an area wherea dial caliper/depth mic can be inserted. If they want more holes, they have to drill them.

At least in Cen-Div, we have the ultrasonic thickness tester.

I have one hole, right next to the stamped log book number, on the right side main hoop. Never been a problem with tech.

I seem to remember him asking us to drill one on the passenger side of the main hoop, one on the "a" pillar down bar and on the door bar.

GCR 9.4.F.5 Either an inspection hole between 3/16 and1/4 inch diameter must be drilled in a non-critical area of the front and rear hoops, as well as one of the supplemental braces to facilitate verification of wall thickness; or alternatively, wall thickness may be determined by non-invasive means and noted in the log book as inspected by such means.

Looks like the GCR now requires three holes

Either three holes, or thickness determined by non-invasive means. If you can get that in the log book, you don't need any holes.

I watched the tech do the non-invasive wall thickness measurement & number the roll cage with the electronic impact hammer/punch. Just checked logbook for the note of wall thickness by non-invasive means & there is no note in logbook. As the deal stands with my car at this time an SCCA tech could suggest the wall thickness was never checked & I numbered the cage myself. Will straighten out next time at tech.

David,
You could always ask the guy who tech'd it to put that note in the book.

I put three holes in all our cars as well, all on passengers side, one in main hoop, one in horizontal of main hoop, one in top pass door bar. That's what our first tech inspector asked for, thus all drilled there
