I want to put a switch on the dash of my '99 that will turn the radiator fan on at any time yet keep the existing system operational.
Any suggestions on an approach to this project?

It's not legal to do, but you simply ground the wire going to the temperature switch in the thermostat housing.

Ken, I would think you could use a 2-pole, 3-terminal switch and splice into the ECU fan wire. Use one position to keep the ECU connected to the fan relay, use the other to break the ECU connection and provide 12v to the relay.

OEM relays are switched ground by the ecu - just tap off of this ecu switched wire and ground it when you want to turn the fan on. If the ecu wants to turn it on it still works.

Thanks for pointing out the legality issue, I had not thought about that perspective. I will continue to watch the temp and deal with it as needed.

Rad fans blow at about 15mph. Hopefully you are surpassing that speed
