Can anyone provide some advice about reinforcement of the roof of an enclosed trailer? I'm installing an a/c unit on a haulmark trailer. Not too much beef supporting the roof so I feel like some stiffeners are mandatory. I thought I might use some angle-iron or steel tubing? Any shared thoughts or experience would be most appreciated.

Thanks-

I have a 20ft haulmark and just put an a/c unit in 15,000 btu. I took out the roof window/flap and installed it the pre existing 14x14 hole.

I didn't do anything extra for bracing and it is still mounted solid after 200miles, At first I also thought I would need extra supports but after you get it up there it doesn't seem as bad as one would think.

What ac unit and generator did you go with?

Thanks for the reply- I bought a 15K- BTU as well. The roof did seem pretty solid when I was up on it and I'm over 230lbs. My concern was that long term, the weight of the unit bouncing as you travel down the highway would bend the roof into a bowl. Have you noticed any condensate draining into the trailer?

I used it for the first time this weekend at Road America and I did have condenstate draining problems but then I remembered that you have to get the tailer/roof as flat as possible... I jacked the the front up and used a level to get it close.... then the water started draining down the outside of the trailer instead of coming out of the vents inside the trailer.

I have a Yamaha inverter generator, quite, it is 2600 watts max I was thinking about getting an 18,000 BTU uniit I have a 22 trailer with a 4 foot v nose so it works out to a 24 ft.

I had not considered doing the heater too, does it work pretty well.

My assumption is you are best to go with a brand name like Coleman?

I just finished installing one on my trailer. I ran 2x4 supports fore and aft between the steel cross beams, with a short 2x4 cross board to make the 14x14 hole. (2 x 4 s are laid flat). It is rock solid and probably overkill.
