There should be a clarification of the Runoffs invitation requirements on the SCCA web page early next week. The problem came about when the BoD approved a new method, that was published in Fastrack, but that never made it into the updated GCR. That is being corrected.
The old rule said that you had to be in the top 50% or points scorers in your class. The new wording says you have to be in the top 50% of entrants in the class and be a point scorer.
Currently 300 drivers have raced in at least one National race. The driver in 150th place (and above) will now qualify for an invitation, if they have completed four Nationals, two in division. It actually includes everyone down to 169th place, due to all those drivers being tied.

Don't you also qualify if you have 8 finishes, regardless of points?

Yes, eight finishes - regardless. This is just the part that was changed and didn't make it into the GCR. It was proposed at the convention, by Meathead. It did not pass then, since it was so late getting to the BoD - like a special meeting after the whole thing was pretty much over. They did pass it in a conference call later.

Cool. Possibly going out as a spectator this year.

22 more SM's are eligible under this rule change than would have been without it.
