I noticed that my pax rear brake caliper was leaking some brake fluid out the bottom of the piston so I decided to replace it. I had bought this caliper direct from Mazda Motorsports in 2010 when building the car and it came with the caliper brackets.

I decided to clean up the bracket and paint it since it had an ugly rusty hue to it after a season of use on Hawk DTC 60 pads. While cleaning by hand, I noticed these holes in the bracket. I'm wondering if this is some sort of casting flaw or if they are supposed to be there? :boggled:

Thanks.

Well, turns out I had an extra rear caliper and bracket sitting in the spare parts heap. It also had those holes so I'm guessing it's normal.

I need to make a list of what I have someday...

The springs don't clip in there. When you cast something with a complex shape, one of the tricks is getting it out of the mold. It's not like popping out ice cubes or jello. That looks suspiciously like something they had to do to make several pieces of the mold all slide together so the part could have recesses in various directions but the finished part could still be removed.
