In JDs set up guide STEP 2, it is says that the caster should be between +3 & +5, However in the paragraph right before that, it says to pull the caster back to full negative(lower ball joint toward the rear of the car) and forward one notch. Wouldn't this be negative caster( or certainly not +3-+5) as opposed to the recommendation of positve caster? I have never seen anyone question this, so I have to assume I am reading this wrong. Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Mike

Pull it back and measure, question away, what the site is here for.

Jim the reason I ask, is because in order to get my car to +4, I have to have the ball joint all the way forward, 100%. If most can get to +3 or +4 with one notch forward from full back, I may have another problem in the front end, or I though maybe I am missing or misreading something.
Thanks

Ahh!

Okay so when I wrote the guide few had caster gauges so I tried to give the best remidy. 3-5ish (baseline, test after that to confirm) or pull all the way back which is never less than 3.

Pull it all the way back and let me know what you get (caster sweep we call it). Not sure if you have this but plotting the camber at each degree will help me see if you have something bent.

Also, give me the low down on your front control arms, spindles etc... (age, crashes etc.)

This site will soon host the build, setup and how to race a SM as told by me. I know I've said that before but have been on hold for the new site a a blog function. I'm ready now.

Now it makes sense to me. Control arms and spindles are new. Can't wait for the post on the build/setup/race. As usual, thanks for all your help.
