Looking for exact same thing for Nov 18 of 2013. A miata or bmw is fine as long as it can be at the track ready to run for the day - ts purely to learn the track in prep for the 25h. Thanks!

This is absolutely not true. I instruct with them and both bring my SM and sit right-seat in SMs and other race cars.
It is true that it is a structured HPDE event so they don't tolerate racing-like behavior but in the A group there is open passing with a point. Expect the pace to be overall slow like any HPDE.
SFR has a race the Oct 18-20 weekend which includes a separate 4-hour enduro. You could get all the track time you want. The enduro is a 1-day only deal with practice in the morning and race early in the day. It's part of the Thunderhill 20th Anniversary Celebration and there will be a track walk on the new West circuit (which is now mostly graded). More info here: http://sfrscca.MotorsportReg.com/

Mike,
Summer before last I rented an E30 from a young man named Barbur who has a shop at Sears Point. Nice guy, car ran well, no complaints and the cost was reasonable.
He brought up multiple E30's for my friend's track day.

That's Tim Barber/TFB. Charlie Hayes also works there whom you may know. They are crazy (in a good way) and have competitive cars available:
