Why are Sabelt seats so cheap in price?

Can anyone explain why Sabelt seats are so low in price? I think a head restraint FIA seat is less than $800?

I talked with the importer this morning. Sabelt is an Italian company that is owned by Brembo. They are imported by Sabeltusa.com
A large portion of the cost of any imported item is the transport costs from Italy to the USA. By leveraging the shipping volume of the parent company, Sabelt is able to save a lot of money on shipping.
Sabelt manufacturers these seats themselves. A lot of the Italian seats are actually private labeled copies of other manufacturers.
Also do not try to compare a Fiberglass seat with a full Carbon seat. The quality is the same, the weight is different and the cost is big time different. Sabelt does make full carbon seats also.
I have a Sabelt containment seat in my B-spec. I would compare it to any other seat on the market in terms of quality, looks and performance.
While I had the warehouse on the phone, I checked availability and all seats are in stock in the USA.

That being said, it's a full fiberglass seat, non head restraint, and it's $900. Recaro's normal fiberglass head restraint seat is $1500.
As much as I hate to ask this.....has anyone crashed a Sabelt seat?

Do you have a dimension chart for Sabelt seats. There website does not let you read all of the chart. Want to see if I can fit it in my car.
Thanks

If the link does not work, go to www.sabeltusa.com then click on seats, let all the pix load and it is on the bottom row. Keep clicking on it and eventually to get the full size chart. Then learn some Italian!!!!!
I have not crashed one, YET. But they are FIA certified and are very popular in Europe

Jeff,
If you will "zoom out" of the webpage, you'll see the whole thing.
Vicktor,
Thanks for the find. Though I've never understood why their seatbelts are so expensive. For a full containment fiberglass, the taurus is the only option. So, it becomes a matter of size. I'll need to see if I can find someone who stocks them to try one out.

Dave, will a Sabelt Taurus installation require modification of the trans tunnel?

I don't think any composite seat will fit without modifying the tunnell

"Fit" is also a relative term.....how tall are you? Where do the down tubes on your main hoop go?
Took a lot of work to get my recaro profi in (no head restraint). Took a lot more work to get my race tech head restraint seat into a position where I was centered on the wheel and the head restraint wasn't sticking out past the top part of my roll cage.
Good luck with it Sphinx.....a lot of people have mounted a lot of different seats in spec miatas. All have had some headaches until they worked out the geometry. Me? I hammered my tunnel (air hammer worked great) and removed my rear humps....and then still had to remove the front cross member because of how tall I am and how low I had to put the seat. Wasn't happy about doing that but it is what it is.

I have a momo start and it fits fine with no modification of the trans tunnel necessary. But the seat has gotten old. I'm 5' 6" and prefer to sit closer than further away. The cage is a Mitch Piper cage, which is to say a well built cage. As for where do the downtubes go, not sure I follow, but they go through the dash to the floor, if that's what you mean.

- Has anyone taken a look at the BIMARCO seats, they seem similar in construction to the sparco's and carry the FIA cert. A containment seat can be had for $449. Was thinking about getting one.

A quick Google search resulted in positive comments about them.

A friend of mine just bought and installed a containment seat from them.
He seems very happy with the seat although it ships internationally (Belgium comes to mind) so it took a long time to get.

Just an update, I ordered a Taurus (medium) from a non-sponsor vendor. It was an even better deal if you didn't mind a new unit with an old manufacture date (clearance item). I believe he has a pretty good deal on a non-containment Titan (again old date, but new). PM me if you want details.
