What year was SM recognized by the SCCA as a regional class and national class?

It depends on the division. In the GreatLakes, which at the time was CenDiv, Area 4, 2002 was the first year for SM. I think some other divisions (California?, NE Div?) had SM as a class in 2001.
FWIW, the first NASA SM race at Mid-Ohio was April 2003 (it was cold as sh!t).
Someone else can confirm but I think 2006 was the first year as a SCCA national class.
