I just bought an AIM Solo DL (after calling AIM they told me that I would be able to get RPM and a few other readings from OBDii, but I mainly want RPM) -- and when I plug in the OBDii cable, it doesn't log any data from the ECU. It logs all the GPS stuff just fine, but no OBDII data.

Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Call them back, they have the best support team in the country, they will tell you what you need to do. Are you calling the west coast office, if you call the Roanoke office ask for Mike, he will hook you up with the information

Broken record - You are starting to sound like a broken record. Bona fide - A bonafide Spec Miata driver Broken record - You are starting to sound like a broken record.

Strange. I got RPM data to work (somehow), but it shows up intermittently, and looks like it's updating at about 1hz. Any help?

Sorry, the Mazda MX5 OBDII output connection for the Solo DL (and other AiM Sports data loggers) is designed for 2005 and later cars. I understand that basic data does exist at the OBDII port on pre 2005 Mazda cars and that it is supplied at 1hz for diagnostic reasons. Certainly not usable for racing data acquisition use. I have never actually tried to connect to an earlier car like you did but I would have expected to find what you found.

I specifically called and asked AIM if it would work before I bought the logger to prevent this exact situation. Now I have a $600 paperweight that is completely useless. I bought this thing to be able to log OBDii data (which I was told it would do). If I just wanted GPS data, I'd continue using Trackmaster on my spartphone with a $60 10hz bluetooth GPS receiver -- the data is just as good.

I sent you a PM but also wanted to also respond here. Customer satisfaction is very important to AiM.

Our Tech was correct, the AiM devices will communicate with the pre 2005 MX5 vehicles via our generic OBDII protocol but it is also true that this particular car data output via the OBDII port is minimal data and at a rate that may not be acceptable to you. It is difficult to know details about every car make and model, and also the many OEM option packages that can change what data and channels are active in the data stream.

But clearly there was some confusion so In the PM I have given you the option to return the product for a full refund, but I still hope you will give the Solo a chance even without the OBDII data stream you were hoping for it is a very powerful product and coupled with the powerful Race Studio 2 software it will provide you with great value.

Thanks Roger.

Like I said in my PM, I bought my unit used from a forum so I doubt returning it to you guys is an option for me. I'm not mad at AIM as a company, I'm really just super frustrated at the situation because I really like the AIM device and I wanted it to work.
