2013 IT/SPEC*tacular - Save the Date
#1
Posted 11-24-2012 02:14 PM

The Cincinnati Region has our contract with Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course so we can announce the date for the 2013 edition of the IT/SPEC*tacular as August 9-11, 2013. This is a couple weeks later than our traditional date. We will be sandwiched between the IRL/World Challenge and NASCAR Nationwide events at Mid-Ohio, so if you follow either of these you might consider making it a long week of racing.
The anticipated classes for the IT/SPEC*tacular are ITA, ITB, ITC, ITE, ITR, ITS, IT7, SRF and SM. Both SM and SRF will have their own race groups. We will be running the 2.258 mile Pro Course this year (without the chicane before the Keyhole). Start location (front or back stretch) is still being discussed.
More info will follow in future updates.

Skip, the beer swapping rules will be in effect for this event. Be prepared. This is a really enjoyable event, especially for SEDiv drivers looking for a break from the heat ( Oh, sure it gets hot in Ohio in August, but it's all relative: 85 deg. is sweater weather for us). There's a deep Miata field but the mood is relaxed. Also, the qualifying format provides lots of seat time. Happy to see the pro course being used for '13. It adds a passing zone over the club course. Last year, the SEDiv drivers put the hurt on the home boys. I expect they'll be ready for us next year.

I think we had 46 or 47 last year.Just a quick update. Unlike most other traditional SCCA Mid-Ohio events, we will be having a separate run group for SM, as well as a separate group for SRF (so no excuses/complaining). I want to encourage the SM field to fill the group (we are allowed 56 cars on track, so I'm expecting to be close to maxing out the SM group). We will be running the Pro Course, and most likely starting/finishing on the front stretch. More info to follow as it becomes available.

I would suggest you just give Tom some gum while on the Grid, but I understand that the had some special teflon palmed driving gloves made.

You can always helicopter between Mid-Ohio and Road America. On a positive note, you and Deerwester won't have to fight over Car #60.

Hi everyone,
For those of you who don't know Race Chairman Jerry Cabe had a stroke back in February. He is home and making a remarkable recovery. In his absence I've resumed some of my old duties and so here's an update on the I.T.SPEC*tacular.

Hi everyone,
As anticipated the opening of registration has been moved back to May 25th. The Cincinnati region apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.
Best regards,
Todd

But the real news is that the Supps have been approved for the 2013 IT/SPEC*tacular and we expect to have Registration open later this week on MotorsportReg.
We will be running the Mid Ohio Pro Course and will be starting on the backstretch this year.

Sorry, but due to a medical event, I have been pretty much "off line" for the past few months. I had to miss a lot of events on my calendar but I do plan to be at the WMR event this weekend at Michigan Int'l Speedway to work-but I won't be racing this year.

Glad to hear your up and going... We need all of the SM gang healthy!!!.. The Roush suite will be open upstairs this weekend with some food and drinks, come by and relax.

Jerry glad to hear you are doing better and try and take care of yourself. OPM plans to be back and as the defending champion I am looking for a car to drive since it was a loaner last year and I don't want to mess with tradition. Maybe I could borrow cavemans so his car could see the other end of the grid for a change.
